"Art of the Deal" Trump now says the foreign Hyundai workers can stay in the USA. They say "Nah" and split.

Four years of nothing but pain and chaos.

"The 316 South Koreans arrested at the Hyundai-LG plant in Georgia are expected to return home Friday. The raid may chill investment in the U.S., South Korea’s president said.

...

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said Thursday that the incident could have a chilling effect and make South Korean companies “very hesitant” about expanding their operations in the United States, especially without changes to the visa system.

“I think this will have a significant impact on direct investments in the United States moving forward,” Lee said in a news conference."

There's a long list of "that was pretty obvious" blunders this admin has had.

Losing a trade world with China and pushing other countries into China's orbit by declaring a trade war against the rest of the world.

Kicking out South Koreans assisting at a South Korean plant in the US making South Korea mad.

The stable genius operating on a 5D level sure comes across as a moron.

Trump Gestapo grab a bunch of random non-white foreigners based on a “tip” from a white supremacist politician, claim they are illegals who they are going to deport, then when they turn around and say they can stay, the foreigners leave always because it’s clear they are under a hostile regime, leaving a major manufacturing plant under development high and dry.

So. Much. Winning.

I'm hoping Carney is on the phone reminding them that we have a much more stable and kind government, and that they should get out of the US and expand more here.

And dang, not even one love letter from Kim.

Article was behind paywall but some fast facts from other sources:
- 316 Korean workers who were detained were all highly skilled workers - these are technical experts
- They were marched out in front of cameras in shackles - hands and ankles
- Donald offered to let them stay - of the 316 who were given the offer, 315 of them decided they don't want to have anything to do with the United States and are flying home today. Only a single one was willing to stay.
- It is very unlikely that South Korea will make any significant further attempts to invest in the United States after many of its best and brightest were treated the way they were so that Donald and Kristi could sexually excite the base.

It's yet another in a long series of face-plants by The Donald.

🤷‍♀️ we have South Korean business partners and suppliers.

Their culture is strong on respect, being polite, being cordial, etc in business relationships.

I will not be surprised, in the least, if this strains US-South Korea relationships.

Either those South Korean workers had viable work visas to enter the US, or the CBP didn't bother to check them out at the Port of Entry.

Now it's possible they overstayed their work visa's, but why would Hyundai commit such an easily avoidable and costly business blunder?

Hyundai now has a battery factory in the US that is only partially finished, and with no remediation in sight.

And the other issue is that Hyundai has controlling interest in Boston Dynamics, a cutting edge robotics company that employees over 1,000 people in the US. I think the Trump administration is going to truly regret being so ham fisted with Hyundai.

...Cho learned from Rubio that Trump had halted the release to “understand Seoul’s position on whether they should stay to educate and train U.S. workers or return home, given that the detained South Korean nationals are all skilled workers,” a South Korean Foreign Ministry official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe diplomatic discussions....

````````````````````````
No one in this cluster**** of an administration checked this out beforehand? No one even wondered whether depriving the plant of these workers would have a negative effect on productivity?
Looks as if there are very few "thinkers" in this administration.
What the heck are we paying these people to do????
All of these workers were in the United States specifically to educate and train US workers. In exchange, Kristi and Donald had them marched out in shackles in front of cameras. So, it's no surprise that virtually none of them now want to have anything to do with Marco, Kristi and Donald. If some country treated me that way, I absolutely would have zero intention of ever going there again, and I would tell everybody I know to avoid traveling there.
Traits unavailable in American governance.
Traits I came to deeply respect in the technology/computer business working with the likes of Samsung. I was impressed with the trust we established over a short time and was beneficial over the long term. Traits societies cherish but which the current American administration abhors. Trump & co see respect as weakness; like all predators weakness is attractive.
What I suspect Canada and Korea share is wisdom enough to know what we're dealing with. You don't live next to an elephant without learning how not to get eaten or crushed.
This must be a cultural thing. South Korea is so use to corruption, lying and cheating in it's business practices that they're in shock that Trump would call them on the terms of the deal. They must of forgot that it's Trump they're dealing with and not brain-dead Biden.
What deal?
Did Hyundai have 316 citizens working in the US without proper work visas?
Has anyone seen him lately?
Captain Bland seems to be AWOL.
Jesus! What a cluster-****. A Liberal leader who's never governed....and still isn't. The cost of living is skyrocketing and seniors haven't seen a raise in four and a half years (that was 1.25 %!).
.....and then, an opposition leader unable to get elected without having to run in the "Safest PC seat in existence"(and almost losing) and a third party that has evaporated into splinters of special interest **** ups. An"opposition leader" who agrees with every major program and stance of the current government.
"Good, Orderly, Direction" as Lester "Mike" Pearson used to say seems to be absent.
What on earth are you talking about? This is a huge blunder on Trump's part. There were so many ways of handling this but he and his incompetent administration wanted a show. Well he got his show but seeing these engineers and specialist in shackles will likely cost the US future investments. No worries, we'll take them!
