Now I know since I'm younger that this is an easier question for me but for older members of society would you be willing to end this ridiculous plan? I'm sorry it's a damn albatross around the neck of the economy, and the government has no bussiness in wealth redistribution; if I'm broke when i'm old then that's my fault not the next generations I mean shouldn't you have to atleast serve the government before you get entidlements, IE veteran benefits? (no ****ing with them.) I feel if one has sacrificed his blood for America then his treasure should never be spent by Americans (blood and treasure) BTW all of our treasure would be traded for one speck of American blood.

1. Stop SS taxes immediately, so that our government doesn't accumulate any more SS liabilities.

Hoot said:The easiest solution is to simply raise the cap on which social security taxes are levied. Of course, the rich Bush supporters want nothing to do with that.
Someone who makes 1 million a year might have to pay $57,000 into S.S, something they could easily afford.
Right now, 14% of elderly women are living in poverty...take away that S.S. check and we're looking at close to 50%! This is America...we're supposed to be better than that.

Not sure what to make of that.

it is a ponzi scheme
there is no fund
ProudAmerican said:I get so tired of the "the rich can easily afford it so make them pay more" argument.
whether they can afford it or not is completely irrelevant.
and yes, I will gladly give up my SS. odds are, at the current pace I wont be able to get it untill im 85 anyway.

Eliminate SS and watch the country go up in flames. I have no doubt that would start a massive revolution amongst the population.
Kandahar said:Heh, are the old people going to overthrow the government by smacking senators with their walkers?
Iriemon said:The Govt doesn't accumulate liablities from SS because SS has been running in the read. SS taxes have exceeded SS payments by about $2 trillion over the past 20 years.
Iriemon said:The Govt has liabilities because those SS assets have been stolen to finance the Republican debt.
Kandahar said:Yes, but the government still has liabilities to those who have paid into the system, even if it doesn't recognize it as a liability on the books. It's the reason that we can't just completely abolish SS suddenly without major consequences. People would (rightly) feel that they've been cheated out of their own money.
Well, the end result would be the same whether we simply replenish the SS trust fund or whether we follow my plan and keep paying out SS but don't pay in. Either way, it won't be cheap but it will be necessary.
The only difference would be that my plan would ensure that this wouldn't happen again, because there wouldn't be SS in the long term.
Iriemon said:Disagree, how much they can afford it is completely relevant.
