Since they're telling people don't buy masks but leave them for the sick and med professionals, I guess I'll have to fashion one out of a bandana or cut-up t-shirt. It seems a little ridiculous looking but I saw several people at the store wearing them today. I'd rather look a little kooky than get a disease that causes high fever, shortness of breath and delirium. Early Halloween?

CDC gives ''voluntary'' guidance on wearing coronavirus masks. Trump isn't volunteering.

'The Centers for Disease Control Friday evening issued voluntary guidance for Americans to cover their mouth and nose when going outside.

The new guidance came in response to accumulating evidence that people can spread the coronavirus without showing symptoms of COVID-19. Surgeon General Jerome Adams emphasized that the measure was intended to prevent possibly infected individuals from spreading the virus rather than to protect the wearer.

"The CDC is recommending that Americans wear a basic cloth or fabric mask that can be either purchased online or simply made at home with material that you probably already have," Trump said. "These face coverings can easily be washed at home or reused. But we want to emphasize that the CDC is not recommending the use of medical grade or surgical grade masks and we want that to be used for our great medical people that are working so hard."
 

Probably, but I'm not going to try to obtain a medical mask. Just something that covers my face. People such as medical workers and grocery store workers have a much bigger need for them than I do.

Same here. I made one out of an old black t-shirt. Looks like a Ninja Mask. :lol:

I'm still seeing more people not wearing them but it's becoming more common. People seem to still insist on close-up talking to me. Must be out of habit.
 

Well I am gona wear bandana along with my cowboy hat and chaps and boots and spurs. I'll even strap on my pea shooters. (.50Cal cap and ball 1858 modified Remington pattern firing blunt boat tail lead). If we are gona dress up like its Halloween may as well go whole hog. Right?
 

My company is most likely going to be providing masks to workers in the near future. But on the off chance that they don't I ordered a fancy one from China with replaceable filters.
 

It is mostly to keep those infected from spreading it to others without knowing they are. That makes a lot of sense and we all should assume we are infected.
 
I don’t think doctors will want my old respiratory mask that I use for working with dangerous vapors. Yes, I wear that out. Very uncomfortable at first but you get used to it. The trick is removing it correctly so you don’t touch your face.

I say, keep it as light and fluffy as possible. There are enough morose thoughts around the subject.

They say don't do that, because it takes away from medical pros and the sick, but I say get what you can.
 

It is also important to cover (protect) your eyes since your tear ducts drain into your nose. The nonsense that masks (and other PPE) only help prevent the infected from spreading the disease and do not help protect the non-infected is still being asserted. It's time to seriously confront those "experts" who make such misleading statements.
 

I already am. But I’m using actual N95 masks and not some jerry rigged cloth
 

Most likely not .. unless there is some type of zombie apocalypse. If I were to wear a mask, I would definitely have to have fun with it though, like drawing a porn mustache on it or repurposing female lingerie :mrgreen:
 
Masks required for a profession, like healthcare, or where the environment is particularly dusty (e.g., as in construction) it makes perfect sense and is very rational. Outside of that, like when used to try to prevent an influenza virus, it becomes irrational and a clear indicator of panic. Those are the people you REALLY want to "socially isolate" because they are definitely several bricks shy of a full load.

I still think it's also for preventing me from getting infected. I don't believe I've been ill yet.

Trying to paste it here dropped the links and I see no reason to bother copying them and pasting them here because no one is listening to anything but what talking heads on TV say - no matter how false, nonsensical and exactly contradicting what they said the day before.

Facts are irrelevant in American society now. Only the perpetual 24/7 terror and political hate mongering on the info outlets of the wealthiest people and corporations on earth making trillions off of this and permanently eliminating most their middle class and lower upper class competitors - and creating vastly greater government power - matters.

No one will hear anything else as those paid PR actors are almost everyone's omniscient and purely benevolent gods no different that religious cult members who believe in faith healing. So why waste a couple minutes pasting links?

When I go to the grocery store, Walmart or Hardware store yes, along with gloves, otherwise no.
