We are Americans and we are supposed to be free. 2.3 million Americans in prison for non violent drug charges at a cost of 25 billion a year. Employers drug testing left and right when all they should be worried about is how good of a job a employee does in spite of the intoxicant that person prefers. Drug testing causes a perminate underclass based on intoxicant preferance. Very few jobs should drug test and the ones that do should come up with a test that proves you are stoned at that time and not 2 weeks ago. This is not freedom and not the way America should treat their people. If you can kill yourself on booze and cigarettes then very few drugs should be illegal.

Re: Employment

If you can't avoid weed for the 30 days necessary to pass a piss test or the 90 days to pass hair (assuming you keep your hair short) then you shouldn't bitch about failing to acquire employment. Being an adult demands discipline. Insurance rates are exponentially higher for companies with employees who test positive for drug use because mental impairment related to drug use is an ongoing risk. ALL DRUGS impair you.

It sucks that it takes 30-90 days for marijuana to clear your system, but you know that to be the case. If you choose to continue smoking because you like smoking, then that's on you. You can't go around pissing and moaning that other people don't want to excuse your habits.

I've had to take 3 drug tests in a 2 month period for pharmacy school, job promotion and for rotation sites. I think they are important and should be used more frequently. Your employer has the right to screen you for illegal drug use.

Drug testing is BS.The only thing that employers should be worried about is job performance and showing up to work on time.Anything else is none of their damn business.

Drug testing is facism. The only thing that a employers should be worried about is how an eployee performs on the job.If they do a good job keep them if not fire them.Ones choice in intoxicants should have nothing to do with it.I would not be against drug testing if it proved you where high on the job not if you used within the last 28 days or 72 hours for hard drugs. You are not high on the job just because you fail a piss test.

Statistically, drug users and addicts (alcohol, drugs, tobacco) cost companies money. They have every right to minimize their costs by any means they choose to employ within the confines of existing law. Employment is voluntary and as such, the employee and employer both have the right to require or refuse any parameters they see fit in regards to employment.

How is it fascism? And why does it matter if a private employer wants to drug test someone they may potentially pay and employ to work for their company?

I'm around many many controlled substances. I'm actively dispensing them and inputting prescriptions for them. If I was the pharmacist in charge I wouldn't want anyone who uses illegal drugs to be in my pharmacy dealing with controlled substances. You don't have a right to do drugs, drugs are illegal and in such light a company has the right to randomly screen you for them and act upon the results.

You sir are repeating the pro drug testing propaganda the employers spew. The fact is if you fail a UA that does not mean you where high on the job. If you hurt yourself on the job and fail a drug test that does not mean you where high on the job like they try to make it look like. I am against going to work high or drunk but that does not give an employer the right to snoop in your personal life. Come up with a drug test that proves you where high or not or put a end to drug testing. No more UA's.

What they do in their own time is nobodies business. If they can't do the job right then fire them. If they had a drug test that proved you where high on the job or not then I would be all for it but a UA does not say you are high or not only that you used in the past. If you can drink in your own time then why not pot or any other drug as long as you show up to work sober?

The thing is that while companies care whether or not you're high on the job, that's not the ONLY thing that they care about. Illegal drug use, even if only during your free time, shows that you are willing to break the law, which might be of concern to them. And statistically, drug users cost a company more money, even if they only use at home. And that's why they do it. It has nothing to do with morals, and everything to do with money.

Words like these have meanings. You can't call something fascism simply because you disagree with it.

In American capitalism, an employer has the right to test their employees for drugs, and subsequently punish them if they fail the said test. It's not fascism, it's top down business structure.
