Yes, America is, IMO, very arrogant.
I'm frankly surprised our "high and mighty" aka "holier than thou" attitude as a nation hasn't found us knee-deep in invasions by other countries who would just love to shut us up and knock us down a peg or two.

Uh, that is precisely what 9/11 was about. Payback for our blind support of Israel, our indifference concerning the Palestinians, and our sexual exploits with Saudi Arabia (i.e. The Saudi Royal Family)(which by the way is where the majority of the hijackers hailed from...1+1=2
I agree, I just consider that 1 instance. I was thinking more along the lines of a constantly flow of invasions, not a random one here and there.

This made me spit my soda out! :lol:Of course I cannot; it is pure speculation on my part based on the REALITIES of how his Liberal policies will bankrupt this nation and expose us to possible threats from our enemies.
Should we also apologize for Liberating Europe? How about apologize for Liberating Asia? Better yet, let's apologize for being the world's police because the UN has become a feckless waste of time and the Europeans have had their heads so deeply imbedded in the ass of thugs like Saddam that they cannot extricate their heads from it.
While we Americans are at it, let's also apologize for the Liberation of Kuwait; after all, if we had just left that mess alone, the world would be a much better place, 9-11 would never have occurred and we wouldn't be trying to promote Democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq; they could still be despotic regimes that treat their neighbors and citizens like crap.
I think we also need to apologize to the Indonesian people whom we desperately tried to help after the Tsunami.
Maybe we should also apologize for the Imperialist Europeans for creating the mess we have in the Middle East because we didn't get involved soon enough to prevent their attempts to subjugate the world to their imperialistic ambitions seeing that they are too HUMBLE to do it for themselves.
I just love a good bash America thread don't you?
:2wave:
This entire thread is troll-bait; seriously, how can a country be arrogant? The very idea is absurd.
If you truly desire some form of answer to this question, however, I suggest simply reading some of the more partisan responses in this thread. :2wave:
I don't see it that way, foreign policy is one aspect of a country's "persona".

I made a similar point, but I don't think the population overall is arrogant, although many among us can be at times. It is bait true. But there is a response that does not need to be an assault on one side or the other.
The country itself cannot be anything. The population of the Us is arogant beyond belief.

I agree it is a bait thread, however the question surrounding the use of the word "country" can be easily reconciled in ones mind to mean "the collective attitude we have shown the world through our foreign policy."
It's definitely human nature to compare and contrast, it's when the ego becomes a little too big where arrogance enters into the picture. There are things we as a country are superior at compared to the world and things that need work, but this is for us to individually figure out, and only individuals can be arrogant. We do have some arrogant leadership and have so for years, but, that's for a different thread.well, is it not human to compare yourself to another? a great deal of people look only on the outside, or cannot size themselves up correctly. who are we to look at ourself and decide if we are better or worse than another? second question: why do we try to?

That's the problem, the statement assumes that we know how the general populace feels more than the general populace itself. Obama doesn't seem to be able to differentiate the patriots from the nationalists, and it was extremely arrogant of him to assume the duty of apologizing on the behalf of this nation for things many of us feel we haven't done wrong.i think the question originally meant the general thought of country...

The simplest definition is that a patriot loves their country for what it stands for, genuinly loves it's people, but is willing to accept that it has faults. A nationalist blindly follows a government, not necessarily loves the country, but has the attitude that their government cannot do anything wrong and/or does things better than anyone else simply because it is their government, which is based in misplaced pride and arrogance.so whats the difference between nationalists and patriots?
It is a funny fit from an ironic standpoint.so an arrogant country has an arrogant president. haha. i guess it kinda fits.
Perhaps, but it wasn't a good move to make, especially considering he is still in his first term, not even out of the "honeymoon" period that presidents typically enjoy in their first hundred days.but perhaps he was just trying to make peace with whomever he was apoligizing to.
I don't remember it either, but it is not accurate in my opinion. All leaders have to be strong in some form or another, it's how your strength is applied and who against that makes all the difference in the world, I see Obama as a wimp when it comes to representing us, and to me he uses his power against some of those that he is supposed to be leading."i imagine at one time leadership meant having muscle, but in this day in age it means getting along with others." -i dont know who said it. =/
