I own my own business and that business deals with the public, but when that public acts like a complete jerk, I DON'T leave my employees hanging out to dry. I back them up, instead.
Coach Wooden:I'm not a pastor, just a Christian and I agree with you. I'm not even that critical of the waitress for posting the receipt. If it embarrassed the pastor then she shouldn't have written it. She should be embarrassed and, if she's not, I'm embarrassed for her.
the pastor was exposed as was her (lack of) characterThe true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.
That's fine, if it's all internal. I'd agree with that.
But what would you do if an employee started shaming customers publicly, using your company's name?
Also, we do not know if this was the first infraction that the waitress did. She could have done other stuff and this just was the final straw, we don't know.

for me it would simply depend on the the reason for the shaming and what form it took.
The pastor was a dick, and the Waitress learned a stiff lesson about social networking and the dangers of it in our new interconnected world.
A decade ago, or even perhaps 5 years ago, she shows this to a few friends and that's it and nothing happens.
Now, with how much more ubiquous Facebook has become and how Twitter has blown up and how many bloggers there are now, posting something like this to your wall can percipitate a country wide sweep of that information into the hands of tens of thousands.
That would depend upon what the customer did and what, exactly, was posted online.
In the case of the Pharisee in question, the waitress only posted the receipt and did not take direct aim at her in any way that was threatening, harassing or malicious. As such, any heat the Pharisee received was from others for her boorish behavior rather than from the waitress directly.
Yes, she should have been fired as she posted personal information about a customer (the customer's name) that was only obtained by being at work.
There are similar privacy policies with companies about posting personal information about customers.
You know what? "Shaming" was the wrong word. I changed it to "insulting."
The Pharisee's behavior was insulting, and exposing such behavior is not an insult in, and of itself. Had the waitress called her names, this would constitute an insult, but shining a light on the boorishness isn't.
That the Pharisee felt shame is because she was revealed for what she is, and she deserves every bit of it.
People treat wait people like crap all the time, as they do anybody who deals with the public. This stupid notion that "the customer is always right" has been taken to such ridiculous extremes that anybody who has to deal with the public is usually treated with such disrespect that they might as well be an untouchable. I don't buy it. That the Pharisee struts around as if she can treat a waitress in any way she chooses is HER problem, and maybe it's about time she was shamed for it.

Now, hold on. You're making some pretty sweeping assumptions about someone based on what she did one time in one situation. You don't know anything else about the pastor; you're just assuming she's an all-around terrible person. Maybe SHE was having a bad day, too. You don't know.
And that's the point -- the waitress posted this with a snarky comment, and here even YOU are pouring a torrent of hate on the pastor.
If that's the kind of thing you'd want coming down on your customers, in the name of your company, then so be it, I guess.

The receipt posted was the merchants copy. A transaction between the customer and Applebees. It was not the waitresses to post. I would have fired her ass even if it had not become national news.

So if some husband has an STD, it's ok for the doctor to "shed light" to the public about this guy right? LOL, love it when people try to get "biblical".
Sounds to me that in your world, the word "pastor" acts like some eternal "get out of jail free" card whereby she is not held accountable for any of her actions and receives automatic defense of anything she does.
I did notice that a true Christian in this thread was critical of her behavior, and so your attitude is not universal among Christians. Sure, if you treat religion as if it involves little more than membership in a club, you will then defend anybody you view who is in your club -- ESPECIALLY if they have been anointed with some title -- but at the end of the day what really counts is some of that stuff Jesus taught, and this "Pastor" failed quite miserably in that regard.
Evidently the notion of "doing unto others" is suspended for those calling themselves a "pastor" in your world.
You know what? "Shaming" was the wrong word. I changed it to "insulting."
That's funny -- it SAYS "libertarian left" next to your name instead of "authoritarian right".
Was this an oversight?
well its only my "opinion" but again its the same for me because i dont find what the waitress did insulting
the pastor insulted herself
Yes, because privacy policies are "authoritiarian" right? Gimme a break. It says "Undisclosed" next to your name instead of "****ing idiot". Was that an oversight? Yes, I'll take an infraction over that one you dip****.
