Apple, Samsung or other?

Which phone is best?

For most people, I think the Apple ecosystem is best with an iphone, apple tv, macbook and so on. They all work very well together, the performance is good, security is good, and the camera is good.

That said, I personally prefer Samsung phones. Specifically, I have an S22 Plus. The camera on it is phenomenal. Even if you get an android phone, a MacBook is much, much more secure than Windows.

I prefer Samsung for a few reasons.

1) It's Android and I prefer Android's customization and open platform
2) Android Auto is superior to Apple Car Play
2a) I've had a few Android phones over the last few years and Samsung phones just work more seamlessly with Android Auto
3) Samsung's Family of TVs and Watches and Laptops all perform well together

The only product that Samsung makes that I've learned to steer faaaaar away from in Washers and Dryers.
,,,,and refrigerators!

Addendum: I'd also steer everyone clear of Motorola phones if you can. Believe me I understand that they look great on paper for the price, and the phones look great... but after owning one, there are things that you would assume are entirely just Android brand functionality that simply don't work and I have no idea why. Also they have the Apple battery disease where they just stop holding a charge, or get drained by mystery systems, after a year.

100% agree about Motorola... I owned them for years.. But then I had a G7
.. Then G8, or G power, whatever it was called... Both were pieces of shit.. They literally, no lie, couldn't do 2 things at once... If I was listening to music, I couldn't take a phone call... I moved onto Pixels... No complaints...

I like Android for my phone and Mac for my laptop. I might get an IPhone eventually.

I worked around computers for 40 years... Never liked Apple, too expensive, overpriced ... But in those 40 years I hated Microsoft... But eventually I warmed up to them.. Got a Windows 11 PC.. I love it.... Lol

I tried an Apple MacBook. The most frustrating 15 minutes of my life.

My wife wanted our kids to be well rounded in the technoverse, so I got them Apple iPads for Christmas one year. It was at that point that I realized why I'd never own an Apple product. I could get the kids an Android tablet and they would be online and doing stuff without my input, but at least back then iPad wouldn't let you open the App store without a credit card on file, and if you wanted to police that card on a child's laptop.. yeah, you needed an Apple iCloud account as well... and if you wanted to to access the iCloud usage reports? Better get an Apple Product or they will never stop screaming at you.

Eventually my child turned 18 and bricked her iPad trying to move it out of child mode because Apple is only smart enough to enable child mode when the entered age is less than 18, but wouldn't undo child mode when the use turned 18.

And on and on. I suppose Apple "just works" when you are an adult and have a credit card, but setting one up for kids was a disaster.

Which phone do you prefer, and why?
Motorola.

Reasons

Cost- I got pretty close to the latest and greatest for less than $500 when I purchased this one.

Repair- Apple and Samsung make sure that it's absolutely difficult or cost prohibitive to repair phones because they want you to buy new ones. The last Motorola I had got a cracked screen and I was able to get it replaced for less than $50. The last Samsung I had they wanted $350 I will never buy an Apple product ever again.

Longevity- the last Motorola I had I used it for 4 years essentially when all the apps stopped working. No I know Apple used to put out updates that would basically make inoperable anything I was more than about four or five years old.

Water proof- every phone I've had that was destroyed that wasn't just at the end of its life was destroyed by falling in water. It shouldn't be that complicated or that difficult to make something waterproof companies like Samsung and Apple just make them susceptible to water damage because that might make you buy a new one. The Motorola I can take pictures underwater with it if I want.

Because I'm not impressed with gimmicks I don't really feel like I'm missing anything. I view Apple as the cult of the lowercase i

I mostly buy iPhone because of privacy and long term software support because I tend to keep my phone for years.
Apple is a privacy nightmare. They say they are all for it and yet why do they gather all the information they do? As for software support..yes and no. More below..

A lot of Andriods only get 2-3 years of security updates and that's just a instant no go for me.
This is just.. Apple gives so much "support" because it releases minor new (often useless) features to cover up glaring bugs and security problems with iOS. There has been 18 iOS 16 updates so far in its 10 month life period...that's a lot of bugs and security patches. There was 2 critical updates with 10 days of its initial release.. iOS 15 had 24 updates with most then patching critical problems.

As for Android phone makers. Most guarantee 4 to 6 years of security updates now days. Most also don't need the feature updates like iOS because they mostly have all the features already or can get it via an app. There is usually a "security" update once a month from Google, but usually the various makers push them out every 2nd or 3rd month unless it is a critical problem which is rare due to the nature of how Android is made...

IOS has had massive privacy leaks for years.. from the iCloud hack to Safari holes and my personal favourite...running no SSL protection for years due to a coding error.. none of these had any consequences for Apple, but Google gor fined for one of Safari's bugs... Hilarious.

The problem is..don't trust Google or Microsoft sure.. but why on earth should you trust Apple who gathers at a minimum the same amount of information on their clients, but says it does not use it...then why gather it? At least Google and Microsoft are honest about why the gather the info .

And for the record I own iPhone, IPads and a Mac, but am using as my main phone at the moment a Google Pixel 7 Pro. It ain't perfect, but it certainly has fewer annoying bugs than my iPhone.

I absolutely love my Note 9. The only problem I've had was I had to replace my screen (I cracked it). It's still really fast and I don't feel the urge to upgrade at all.

I have a Nokia 5.4 and I wouldn't buy it again. It could have been a great phone but Nokia made too many silly mistakes such as leaving out the compass software and deleting the notification light in the power button that the 5.3 had. Its been a good phone and it does have NFC that is rare in the $250 class of the Moto-G. I only have a cheap clear case on it and its been dropped a few times but it has proven to have the legendary Nokia reliability.

Some reviewers criticized the camera and the battery life but they seem fine to me. I easily get 2 days on a charge. The pictures look look to me and as as good as any comparable phone.

I would definitely not replace it with anything but an Android phone.

I had a G6 power for my last phone. Never again.

Yeah.. I bought Motorola phones for years. Even before smart phones... Iirc my 1st cell phone, late 90s??..Was a Motorola... Flip phone...

But as the G series went on... They got bad, updates were months later.. As I said earlier, sometimes they literally couldn't do 2 tasks at once...

So I moved on to Pixels... Had a 6a...Now I got a 7a...No complaints with either...

One of my first phones was a silver Motorola Razr. About 2000 or so.

I wanted to be able to switch the battery myself so I went with Samsung. Plus I didn't like some of the apps on Apple (iTunes comes to mind). I also used to have a box full of power cords. Fun times hey.
