What say ye?
Seems like a fine choice to me.
I think they are fine choices for BO.....won't give him any flak and pretty much go with what BO thinks. More than likely wont be as vocal as Dempsey with the questioning BO and his so called Foreign Policy.
And what observations of these individuals do you base that on? Have you ever even heard their names before today?
Pleased to see a combat experienced Marine however Im also someone skeptical after 6 years of Obama. Is this guy going to be just another yes man?
BO is announcing today around noon.....replacing General Dempsey. McCain gave a thumbs up but no approval verbally......so is this a Disaster in the making or what? This guy has been fast tracked all under BO Terms and BO's only. What say ye?
President Barack Obama will nominate Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, choosing a widely respected, combat-hardened commander who led the Afghanistan war coalition during a key transitional period during 2013-14, U.S. officials said Monday. The move cuts short Dunford's service as the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, a job he began last October. But the rapid promotion is one of several that have marked Dunford's fast-tracked military career, which saw him leap from a one-star general to four stars in about three years.
Officials also said Obama is tapping Gen. Paul J. Selva, a top Air Force officer and pilot, to serve as vice chairman. Selva, who has clocked more than 3,100 hours piloting transport and refueling aircraft, is currently the head of U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
Obama plans to make the announcement at the White House Tuesday, said officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly ahead of the announcement. Dunford is expected to be easily confirmed by the U.S. Senate and would succeed Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, who will have served four years as chairman.....snip~

Come on, you know better than that. He's an Obama appointee; ergo, he's (at best) a bootlicking yes-man.
'..... said officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly ahead of the announcement."
That is code for they were given enough details to leak ahead of time so that it get's longer play.

No president is going to keep around a person that they are at odds with in ideology and policy. I suppose their all always yes men in that way.
That's True Monte. :2wave: Way to put that in its proper perspective. Although, its not like he would know anything about how fast a general picks up extra stars on his collar. Despite being able to look it up.
three years.

What do you think about that Monte.....just 3 years. To go from a one star to a 4 star. Do you think that is questionable. Here lets take a look and you tell me.
The move cuts short Dunford's service as the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, a job he began last October. But the rapid promotion is one of several that have marked Dunford's fast-tracked military career, which saw him leap from a one-star general to four stars in about three years.
Dunford began his career as an infantry officer and has commanded at all levels. He served nearly two years in Iraq, including as head of the Marines' 5th Regimental Combat Team during the 2003 invasion, where he earned the nickname "Fighting Joe." He is well-connected internationally, often meeting with NATO and other coalition leaders, particularly during his Afghanistan command. His selection signals that even as the U.S. puts more focus on Asia and looks ahead to high-tech cyber and space threats, the administration still believes a strong ground force commander is needed to work through the ongoing conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and across the Middle East and Africa.
Dunford's most visible role came in 2013 when he was chosen to take over the job as top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan. During his 18 months there, Dunford oversaw the ongoing drawdown of U.S. troops, the transition to Afghan military lead in combat operations, and the tumultuous Afghan elections that dragged on and stalled efforts to reach an agreement on the U.S. military's future presence in the country.
He left Afghanistan last August, preparing to take on his new role as commandant. Dunford's rise through the ranks has been rapid, particularly compared to many of his peers, who would normally spend several years at each rank before getting promoted.....snip~
APNewsBreak: Marine general chosen Joint Chiefs chairman
Obama liked him from the time he met him and immediately built a relationship with him. He related to him, understood him, and after a period grew to trust him and his advise, seeing things went well when he followed it. He said some of that yesterday. So he cleared a path for his rise in rank, wanting him ultimately in the position that he may be in next. Do you have a problem with the soldier?
Yeah....I don't think he is qualified. His Oath is to country, not BO. A Joint Chief of Staff.....needs to be one who can tell BO. What you are thinking. Wont work and these are the options. Its all you have. Advising is part of the puzzle BO needs to learn about.
Do you think with that career he deserves 4 Stars?
There are times when soldiers advance rank faster than that. Obama saw something in this soldier and believed that he was under ranked for his abilities and skills. I don't see a problem. But I know that Obama couldn't pick a man for the job that would meet your approval.
Not really Monte.....it has been rapid for him and more than likely due to BO. Although I do wonder what our Marine Vets have to say about the fast tracking of this General.
Really.....I had no problem with him picking Petraeus as Head of CIA. Nor did I have any trouble with him picking Gates as his SOD. Nor La Hood as Sec of Transportation.
I didn't care for Hagel as SOD and didn't think he was Qualified for that Hat either. But like with this Marine General.....its not really much having to do with BO and his picking him. It has to do with his career. Where, how long, and what he has had Command over.
What do you mean not really?? That's exactly what I said. I pointed out it was likely because of Obama and why. As I said, I really don't care. A president, any president is going to be sure to have a man as Joint Chief who he can communicate with, understands and trusts. There's little unconventional about this. Makes for good partisan distraction though.
I was responding to......There are times when soldiers advance rank faster than that.
As it isn't common for rapid promotion from a one Star to a 4.....and those who have done so. Have the record and career to show why. Way more combat experience too.
Well, it also makes for knowing whats to come with his camera appearances.
