Haven't come across any anime forums as I am an anime buff. I'm curious to know everyone's opinion on favorite titles, genres, types of art or whatever. Or what tremendously sucks. I'm always searching for new anime to get into and like to stray from the terrible ones.

For instance: I lean more towards psychological and horror animes. Favorite titles would include Death Note, Mushi Shi, Baccano. The style of art found in those animes are beautiful.

And if anyone draws or has a deviantart page give a shout or share your work or deviantart URL.

And keeping with the political theme of this site, anime can be quite political. Anyone who has ever seen Hetalia can vouch for me. Comedic and controversial.

You should look at Ghost in the Shell. It's a pretty good anime.

If you are looking for something less psychological and horror but that does draw from those themes, Hellsing is a good choice. It's just visceral action, not psychological but it's good enough.

My all-time fav anime however are Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin) and just like you, Death Note.

Hi! I am one of the resident anime fans(there are several others, but not alot here).

For horror anime, have you watched Dusk Maidens of Amnesia? It is available free at Crunchroll(Crunchyroll - Dusk Maiden of Amnesia Full episodes streaming online for free) and is gorgeously animated with a kinda neat story. Also available at CR is Pupa(Crunchyroll - Crunchyroll - The Official Source for Anime & Drama), which is a series of shorts that at times are incredibly disturbing. If you read manga, I also cannot recommend enough Franken Fran, which is hilariously funny, violent and gross, with some really good psychological twists that remind me of old Twilight Zone episodes. You would have to read it online since it has never been licensed in the US.

Since I mentioned a couple shows at Crunchyroll, I would be remiss if I did not ask if you are a member. If not, I can set you up with a 2 day pass to watch some stuff in HD with no commercials. For the price, CR is cannot be beat.

Myself, I tend to go for slice of life comedies and some moe stuff, though I do enjohy a good action show too. From the current anime season, my favorites by far are Aldnoah.Zero(mecha action at it's best, hyperactive, violent and plot twists galore: Crunchyroll - Aldnoah Zero Full episodes streaming online for free) and Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-Kun(hilarious romance comedy: Crunchyroll - Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun Full episodes streaming online for free...my avatar image is one of the characters from the show). Other recent facorites include Silver Spoon(by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist), My Teen Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As Expected, Log Horizon, Chaika The Coffin Princess, Yuyushiki, and many more.

Edit: oh, and somehow I forgot one of my alltime favs: http://www.crunchyroll.com/girls-und-panzer

Hellsing is fun! One of those rare shows where the dub is actually better than the original Japanese voices.

One popular new one I don't care for is Kill la Kill. I know it's from the guy that made Gurren Lagann, but man, it's just lame. Good soundtrack though.

4 more I thought of.

1. Claymore. This is a really unique anime I find. I think it's prolly in my top 5. It's all good.

2. Fate Stay Night and the prequel/sequel depending on how you judge it. While it is a fairly mediocre story which is "meh" at best, its art design is nice and the mediocre story plays out consistently. so it's not like one of those long running animes that has tons of filler. A mediocre anime that is good.

3. Gantz. This is again, prolly one my top favs. It's psychological, it's horror, it's got wonderful art design, good story, really, all round good stuff.

4. Ergo Proxy. Remembered it. Mediocre anime but the soundtrack is memorable as hell. best OP soundtrack. Of all time. It's kinda psychological but also sort-of actiony adventury magically-technologically mash-up.

Anyway, this is the OP song and why it remained in my mind. This is the best stuff.

Faves:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Akira
Gurren Lagann
Berserk
Record of Lodoss War

More recent stuff I've liked:
Kill la Kill
Summer Wars
Madoka Magica
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
Sword Art Online
Attack on Titan

Dislikes??? Having a harder time remembering one I didn't enjoy yet felt compelled to keep watching. Usually more of a case of one episode and done, and then I forget about them entirely.

One recent one I dislike for being manipulative / creepy was Oreimo. It started as deriving humor from parody and then turned into perverted self-parody.

And 1 more than is purely psychological + sort of spiritual stuff. The action parts are most of the time complementary to everything else.

Witch Hunter Robin. But it's slow. I mean, it's pretty slow-moving. good to watch with pals or if you're sad and alone and have nothing better to do with your life.

I tried hard to like Kill la Kill. I watched 15 episodes of it I think, and at times, it was great. Unfortunately, too many times it was over the top just to be over the top and got on my nerves.

I will say I loved Nonon Jakuzure:

Always enjoyed Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist.

Cowboy Bebop is another classic.

The only two I've watched recently is:

Attack on Titan

Sword Art Online.

Now Sword Art Online is a tough one, it was so good up until the Elf part, just destroyed the show for me including all the really weird borderline hentai **** they threw in during that part of it as well.

I just didn't understand the choice of the producers, to completely smash the style, characters and setting of Sword Art online halfway through the season and expect the audience to just accept that.

Just poor thought out storytelling that.

I know I've been rambling about that but it actually genuinely upset me because I enjoyed the first half so much.

Attack on Titan and Madoka Magica deserve mention as both being great stories. Highly recommend both.

If you liked Gargantia, check out Aldnoah.Zero. Same guy in creative who came up with the concept of both.

Related to your Sword Art Online stuff, two things. First, the light novels have been licensed and are available now in the US. Not terrible stuff, though not great. Second, check out Log Horizon(Watch it here: Crunchyroll - Log Horizon Full episodes streaming online for free), which takes a similar concept and goes an entirely different way with it. It is also notable that it is NHK, which means zero fanservice. Log Horizon takes a more "what if it really happened" approach, and looks at how the players interact, and the NPCs now are real people with real goals and politics. Less action, but more story. And the female lead, Akatsuki would never let herself become a damsel in distress(pet peave from the second part of SAO is that the female lead who they built up as a badass spends the whole storyline locked in a cage, doing little more than waiting for the hero)...

Adaptation of a very short light novel series doesn't lend well to prolonging time spent in any one game. They seemed to add a lot of filler to the first season as it was.

Yes, Oberon was a creep but nothing was explicit. Didn't bother me.

Another good one, Vampire Hunter D.

Berserk. But really, this one is BRUTAL.
None of these are psychological in any way as the OP requested but they did leave an impression on me.

And to clarify. When I said Samurai X, I included the films too, the OVAs or OAVs however you call them. God those ones are good. I mean, really, really good. Which is why the entire thing is my #1 along with Death Note.

--------
Ofc, there is 1 more that I could recommend but by doing so I'd have to hand in my man card. Vampire Knight. Get it? Knight? Night? Oh anime, u so clever. I think it has 3 seasons by now but I never got past the first one because it was so cheesy and sugary that it gave me diabeeetus. But if you are happy with insuline shots for the rest of your life, I heard only good thing from those who pursued in watching the show.

I've heard of Attack on Titan. This apparently a scene from it.

Praise be to Gaben.

It did get pretty weird.

#1 - Attempted Rape in the final fight with the gravity hole.

#2 - Shower Scene with Kiritos "sister"

#3 (and most importantly) - The monsters from the test subject room, tentacles...

It wasn't completely explicit but it was a massive departure from the lack of that kind of thing in the first half of the season.

I laughed. Attack on Titan is one of the bigger anime series recently. The guy who wrote the manga was apparently badly bullied growing up, and the series grew out of those experiences, with the titans as the bullies and the powerless rage that permeates the series being his own. It is pretty well done, and at times the artwork is simply awesome.

A couple of my favorite funny anime scenes from recently:

My only problem with Attack on Titan is I'm not feeling good about where the series is going.

Attack on Titan represents many different things to many different people and for me it represents the futility, inhumanity and senselessness of warfare.

Apparently it's caught on big in Hong Kong, with many perceiving Beijing as the Titans.

But I really feel the explanation about what the titans are is going to be a let down from what I've read.

To me they were more terrifying being mindless monsters.

Yes, I agree to a great extent. As mindless forces of nature kinda things, they where better. I think that what keeps me interested is that Mikasa and Levi are such interesting characters.

They jolly well are.

The other thing that bothered me though is some of the corny dialogue, especially from Erin.

But other than that, I would say one of the finest shows I've ever seen, blasted through the whole series in a couple of days I was so impressed.

Wish I I had got into it before I went to Japan this year, coulda bought some gear while I was there.

Really want one of those survey corps jackets.

I've actually tried Ghost in a Shell and i can't do it....not sure why:-/ Maybe because it's alot of CG. Throws me off.

And I love me some Rurouni Kenshin! Haha! So yeah, have all those jewels. I used to have a crush on Sanosuke when I was little :2razz:

I've heard of Dusk Maiden before. Not sure why I havent tried it out. No comp at home (on work comp) so I have to buy my anime:-/

But I wrote down your comedy suggestions. I love Ouran High School Host Club. That's probably one of my favorite comedy animes.

Neon Genesis messes my brain up. And Cowboy Bebop is amazing. One of my faves.

Attack on Titan i liked during my first go around with it. But that was in Japanese dubb. I bought the english dubb and it killed it!!! I can't even watch it.

And Summer Wars is genius.
