Probably the best choice since New York isn't going to elect a Republican. Guys seem pragmatic and not too overly dogmatic.

That's interesting news.

I'll definitely vote for him.

as nyc currently has the worst mayor of our lifetimes, i am all for yang

Anyone is better than the dolt there now . He is a very interesting man. A stint as the Mayor of NYC may just be the experience he needs to move him up the political ladder.

Which NYC mayor wasn't said to be the worst mayor of our lifetimes?

I can't remember one except John Lindsay, 1963 - 1972, as not the worst mayor of our lifetime.

What of Andy's cousins?

I think Yang would have a chance in NYC. He's interested in progressive ideas and is practical enough to not have his head in the clouds. Should be an interesting race.

Kotch was not, Bloomberg was not.

Dinkins was the worst until this **** nut came along.

Yeah... I had hopes for DiBlasio and he turned out to be really really bad.

I would vote for Yang.

He is literally a bum. He is teh guy you fire in private industry if he worked for you, seriously.

His house is in walking distance to where I live in Brooklyn. The first time around I felt like I was voting for a guy from the neighborhood who was wanting to make things better for the average New Yorker.

Turns out he was deep in the pocket of the real estate developers.

Didn't vote for him the second time around.

I lived on Clinton street in Cobble Hill for many years. I love Brooklyn. Of course then, Smith street was very different than it is today.
I lived on Dean and Smith for a short time too. I heard every train that passed, all night long. Lulled me to sleep. LOL
So many would go insane in that situation but I always liked the privacy city sounds brought.

I am over by the gatehouse of the Green Wood Cemetery. Lived over there for over 20 years now. Seen a lot of changes. Nice neighborhood. Quiet.

Greatest mayor of my lifetime. I was lucky to live in NYC when he was mayor. He would ask me, "How am I doing?" Great guy.
He is teh guy that started the great transformation in Manhattan that the little ****er, Rudy, took credit for.

I hope Yang can come up with a plan to keep wealthy people from leaving.

Need to worry more about the middle and working class than the rich.

It is the rich that have ruined NYC.

Not likely. The mass exodus this year will take a generation to repair.
Sooooooooooooo much new construction the last 20 years, I wonder what will become of it all. Also, office space is no longer needed as people now work from home and that is not gonna change.
The city is in for hard times no doubt. It's too bad, it was at it's pinnacle just one short year ago.

OK, I give up. How did the rich ruin NYC?
If nothing else, the rich inflated the price of things which in turn cut down on my drinking at $25 per cocktail on 57th street.
Not a bad thing. ;)

One thing that may be positive is that the steady building of overpriced yet cheaply built condos will slow down a bit.

One thing that Yang can do that would immediately help is to institute a vacancy tax on storefronts to alleviate the rent blight that has been encouraged by current tax code.

One of the more apparent things is rent blight. Large hedge funds and REITs will allow store fronts to sit empty because they are waiting for a national chain to come in pay $20,000 a month.

The other side of that is in the outer boroughs.. like in my neighborhood where storefronts are empty with the hopes of being able to sell out to a real estate interest in order to build a condo of some sort.

The problem is that a lot of these condos aren't built for actual people to live in but for holders of foreign capital.

I liked Koch, but I'd say Rudy did a lot as well.

I was hanging out in NYC on weekends during both their tenures and saw the city come back to life. A Navy buddy of mine from the 80's still lives right off of Metropolitan Ave on 65th Pl across from the cemetery. He keeps asking me to come up to take in a few Yankee games.

Getting back to DiBlasio and how he is in the pocket of the real estate developers.

Remember that thing about getting the horses out of Central Park? It was never about the horses even though that was the excuse. It was about the stables.

The Stables for those horses are on a section of the West side that is rapidly developing.
