Democrats love them because they are more likely to lean socialist. Many poor immigrants feel the trade off for sub par wages is free medical and social programs to make up the difference. Democrats want cheap labor and union votes. No one ever accused union voters of looking past their noses.

Democrats are all for card check. Except at Tesla.

California has pretty much been taken over by illegals. As wages get stagnate due to over supply, people have to move to earn a living. Not everyone wants to live like a squatter. There is heavy political pressure to not build middle or lower class subsides housing because it brings in the wrong element - blacks and Mexicans. Sports stars and high earners of color are acceptable.

There are measure to officially have a dual justice system. Those who can pay fines pay out their nose. Those who can't just blow it off. (a right turn against a red light can run $1000 plus depending on the city.

California does not plan to change. Newsom was elected on impossible promises, even the dumbest voter knew would never happen. So nothing happens.

The Wuhan virus will no doubt find its way in to the homeless population, and hands will wring. But that's about it.
