This is the unassuming title of a recent report from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The “metallic specimen” is believed to have been recovered from the site of the Roswell incident in 1947. The composition of the specimen was determined to be an alloy of magnesium and zinc with trace amounts of lead, bismuth, iron, manganese, cadmium, thallium, gold, molybdenum, tin, and barium. The original crystalline structure of the specimen could not be determined owing to having been subjected to a tremendous amount of heat stress.
Its composition and isotopic qualities are unnatural. The specimen is judged to be artificial in nature, possibly a piece of a larger object, and consistent with mid-20th century terrestrial experimental manufacturing of magnesium alloys for aerospace performance studies.
