I found this little slideshow about Bethesda Maryland 1950's thru 1980's, a few shots from earlier and later decades but mostly the time period when I grew up there.
I moved away for college and the rest of my life in 1977 but this clip brings back a lot of memories...1957 to 1977.
The house I grew up in 1960 to 1977 was directly in the shadow of Bethesda Naval Hospital (now called Walter Reed Military Medical Center)

PS: I remember going TO one of those pot protest marches but I'll be damned if I can pick myself out in any of the crowd shots, but I might be in there somewhere. 😆

Oh the HOUSE I grew up in has not changed but I am not kidding when I say that I actually GOT LOST in 1992, the last time I visited Bethesda, MD. 😆
Soooooo embarrassing! (LOL) my new wife (first one, not Karen) was busting up laughing..."Are you SURE you grew up here?"

I am 59, which for anyone at least 55 and older, remembers the same thing. Almost without exception - when we were young, almost every business in town was owned by someone who lived in that town. 80% or more were. Today - it is the exact opposite. Almost every business in town is owned by shareholders who may not even know your town exist.
All across America, towns lost their uniqueness and became Anytown, USA.
