An American sent to Canada was shocked by how furious Canadians are at the U.S.

You don't understand that the industrial revolution evolved into the age of technology. The nations that do the scut manufacturing are second world.
Oh?

Then Germany is "second world"?

LOL!!

Yes they are. The U.S. has the vast majority of the great technology companies and Trump wants us to revert back to second world manufacturing.

Sure. Stability.

Canada, and a lot of other countries, would love the previous "stable" trade arrangements to continue. There was a lot of benefit for them. For the US? Not so much.

Sorry, but that detrimental "stability" is over.
Think about the following posts for a minute and tell us how the US is benefitting from that. Please and thank you.
This isn't something that people in any country would be indifferent to.

A threat against our sovereignty is an attention grabber and the reciprocal tariffs are something we see every day.

My favorite California wine and Kentucky Bourbon, all gone from liquor store shelves and bars.

My cat's favorite food - disappeared from the pet store, replaced by empty shelves where US products were once displayed.

As the article's writer correctly points out Americans (including you apparently) are unaware of the level of hostility this has engendered.

Indeed, which is why many of the US' trade partners are also diversifying their trade portfolios. This idea that the US was suffering is absolutely ridiculous, and is fine for the MAGAverse to accept unquestioningly, but not for anyone remotely aware of global history of the past 80 years.

If the GOP retains power in 2028 our family had decided to immigrate to Canada. Husband has a standing offer and sons, and their wives will have no problem with employment.

Do even realize how ridiculous the above reads?
Trump made a spectacular trade deal with the EU today. We drop the tariffs and in turn they buy 750B of our energy and promise to invest 600B in the US.

Sadly, though... most Americans are oblivious to this.
I'll change your most to some.....okay, I'll take off my rose colored glasses.

Thanks a lot MCGA.

Assholes!

I love Canada. I didn't ask for this. Is this seriously what you voted for?

You wanted to turn a friend into an enemy?

For what????????

What the hell is wrong with you?
Maybe they wanted to balance out the enemies that traitor trump has turned to friends (with benefits). They're not right in the head, like their new dictator with the swollen feet and bone spurs.

shrug...

Canadians can be as pissed off as they want to be, but economic reality will still exist. Whether they like it or not, they are STILL the junior partner in any trade activity with the US. The size of their economy vs the size of the US economy is the proof.

Trump knows this and Carney does, too.
Of course, in a global economy with extensive transportation options the tariffed may be able to replace us by selling their goods to other tariffed countries and vice-versa, then stop buying what they used to buy from us.

I do see that you’re happy paying tariffs. (You do know end consumers pay them, not the exporters, right? A lot of MAGA think China pays the tariffs on Chinese goods. Silly MAGA)

There’s the whole rest of the world Canada can trade with. Why do you think they are, or even want to be, tied to the U.S. as things stand now.

Trade routes take years... decades, to develop. You don't just start trading with a new guy once you lose your previous one.

.

Unlike Canada and a few others who think they are too big for their britches, the rest of the world is making their deals with the US.

Wrong.

There is way too much money to be made by selling to the US. No country in the world...not even Canada...will give that up.
Not if American consumers get tired of paying tariffs.

Before you start, they may just save more and buy less. Or other alternative spending models.

Global shipping is sophisticated and adaptable.

There are no more silk roads by camelback.

You absolutely can buy from somebody else. Might need a short period of resource allocation and infrastructure but we’re not the only source of anything.

New York Magazine sent a journalist to Canada to "read the room". He and his family lived in Toronto for a month and he was surprised by the depth of hostility toward America and the solidarity of Canadians in that regard.

New York Magazine's July cover...

The writer notes that Canadians feel that their relationship with the US is "over" and a return to normal won't necessarily follow a change in US Administration.

Fine. We can cross off Canada as a tourist destination. We do not seek to visit where we are not welcome.

The likely outcome is that Canada will piss and moan for a while, and then ultimately make a deal.

Because the whole rest of the world is also facing US tariffs.

Drop America as a reliable trading partner and the world will bypass you and trade with each other.

The US may have hobbled itself but the supply and demand still exist. In May Canada set an import/export record.
I seriously doubt the idiots of trumpco contemplated the long term effects on the American economy if this is successful.

If it works really well, they may be reluctant to shift things around again logistically. Once grain has stopped moving from A to B and shifts to B to C and D, A may find itself wishing it hadn’t been a dick to B.

Bad news...
there was an increase in the number of US residents visiting Canada. Specifically, the overall number of arrivals by US residents rose by 2.1% on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis. This increase was driven by a rise in arrivals by air (2.5%) and by automobile (2.7%).
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Overall increase: The total number of US residents visiting Canada saw a 2.1% increase in May 2025 compared to the previous month.
Air travel: Arrivals by air from the US to Canada increased by 2.5% in May.
Automobile travel: Arrivals by automobile from the US to Canada increased by 2.7% in May.
Other modes of transport: While not explicitly stated, the increase in overall travel likely also includes a rise in other modes of transport like bus, train, and pedestrian travel, as seen in previous months.
Prior months: In March, US-resident arrivals in Canada increased by 1.1% by air and 3.4% by automobile.
But by all means you stay home.

asked in another thread.
How does selling 750B of energy to the EU help lower the cost of energy in the US?
Seems the only ones who would benefit from this are the energy companies.

Yes, I know it may create some new jobs for Americans in the energy field.

It will be interesting to see how this gets done on federal land. With the DOI reducing the number of employees.

Canada has ports on the Atlantic and the Pacific and they already trade with the rest of the world. What “new guy” are you talking about?

Work with Trump to build a bridge and you won't be bothered by the "moat".

Yes. Money and the good of your own economy.
Another toll bridge where we pay the toll?

No thank you.

Ask me in another thread. I mentioned the above only to counter another poster’s nonsense.
In fact @gbg3 has already started a thread on the EU trade deal.
