Obama gave an order a few days ago that the naval commander was free to act if he felt the hostage life was threatened.
Thats what occured. So the commander acted.
The Commander acted..not Obama.
Obama did not order the action be taken he left it to others. I also highly doubt he had any clue anything like this was going to occur and probably preferred it had not.
Left to Obama the hostage would have joined the others hostages somewhere in Somalia.
Good Job Seals/Navy/Commander on scene.
Obama?...whatever.
(I especially like how the new media push is Obama gave authorization twice!..and he ordered it....
IN the morning it was the Naval Commander had acted at the moment with the Authorization given him by Obama.
Two different things..BUT one of them doesn't make Obama the hero. SO a snip there an addition here and a slight change of wordage over there and the narcissist has his day.)
Don't worry. Elsewhere he'll still be Dear Leader. This does not change my disgust for his politics or his policies.I'm almost more pleased that Celticlord decided to title Obama as "Mr. President" and not "Dear Leader". Almost an achievement upon itself
I'll be damned, I was wrong. Kudos to the Navy folks that saved our man. Now go blow up the damned pirates eh?
Obama approved force to rescue pirate hostage
The Associated Press: Obama approved force to rescue pirate hostage
That's good enough for me.
Good job, Mr. President. That was the right call.
Good for him.
Why?!? We wanted the pirates to succeed?? I don't think so, Jack. If Obama's team made this happen, Kudos to them!
Back to the joy of the occasion:
This is fabulous news! Happy Easter!!! :bunny:
CNN reports that Pres. Obama authorized the use of force if Capt. Phillips' life was in danger.
This isn't really all that helpful ya know?
Obama gave the one important order that mattered "Use force if..."
That freed the men on the ground (as it were), to act without getting everything from Washington. THAT is outstanding, and I hope such a trend continues. We can have decent debates over the merits of the "Hostage threatened" clause instead of just taking the bad guys out straightaway and that could be interesting.
Obama freed the Navy to act, and they took the first chance they could to act. That's all that matters. Period.
Good Job Seals/Navy. Commander who ordered the actions.
Obama..whatever.
I am going to say three things:Obama gave an order a few days ago that the naval commander was free to act if he felt the hostage life was threatened.
Thats what occured. So the commander acted.
The Commander acted..not Obama.
Obama did not order the action be taken he left it to others. I also highly doubt he had any clue anything like this was going to occur and probably preferred it had not.

I just saw it reported on CNN that the Navy SEAL snipers had performed a high altitude parachute jump into the AO. Then when the time was right they used 3 bullets and fired a single shot into the head of each pirate. The forth pirate was captured, actually I think he surrendered.
Where do I sign up? I may not have any gun-totting experience, nor do I know how to command or navigate a vessel.
But I logged quite a good deal of hours on Sid Meier's Pirates! Though this conniving water-dragons may not be caliber enough to go motto v. motto with cutlasses and rapiers, I'm sure there will be a great deal of satisfaction in implementing the tools of a navy that made the United Kingdom's look like a water-chestnut floating in the Pacific.
OK, that's just flat out impressive. 3 bullets, 3 down.
Pah...SEAL snipers I would expect nothing less.
(although I'm fairly certain that MARINE snipers would have gotten the fourth pirate as well, and probably still with just 3 bullets! :mrgreen
The military has been medically experimenting with X-Ray Vision for some time now. It was scrapped for a while because troops were caught hanging out by the showers abusing their amplified abilities. But for special missions of this sort, the shelves get emptied.
They established clear head shots on all three pirates: one was visible through the front window, and the other two were revealing their heads through the top hatch, presumably to get fresh air. It would be their last breath.
Which is exactly what Obama should have done.Obama gave an order a few days ago that the naval commander was free to act if he felt the hostage life was threatened.
Thats what occured. So the commander acted.
That goes without saying. If your position is to beat Obama up in some way then your comment is pointless. The Commander acted..not Obama.
Again, which is exactly what he was supposed to do.Obama did not order the action be taken he left it to others.
So? He probably preferred that the Captain be released unharmed and the pirates surrender peacefully. Thankfully though he had enough foresight to give the commander authorization to use force should that become necessary.I also highly doubt he had any clue anything like this was going to occur and probably preferred it had not.
The very fact that he gave the commander authorization to use force against the pirates proves you wrong.Left to Obama the hostage would have joined the others hostages somewhere in Somalia.
Agreed.Good Job Seals/Navy/Commander on scene.
You?...whatever.Obama?...whatever.
I especially like how you are in here belittling his actions despite the fact that he did exactly what he should have done. Obama can do nothing right in your eyes. You hyperpartisan is showing once again.(I especially like how the new media push is Obama gave authorization twice!..and he ordered it....
Yes, and you will do whatever you can to undermine any credit the President may have coming because you don't like his politics.IN the morning it was the Naval Commander had acted at the moment with the Authorization given him by Obama.
Whoever said it makes Obama a hero? And now he is a narcissist? You do a lot of drugs? Whatever it takes right? Two different things..BUT one of them doesn't make Obama the hero. SO a snip there an addition here and a slight change of wordage over there and the narcissist has his day.)
Simply put, I bet a dollar to a donut that if the mission had failed, Triad would be putting the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the CiC (Obama.)
How do you spell that word again? Hippo...er...hipocr.....hypoc...????
The only failure would have been if the CinC denied authorization for the rescue effort. That did not happen, and the rescue was a success....so anyone who wants to deny the President the win on this is simply being a damn fool.Simply put, I bet a dollar to a donut that if the mission had failed, Triad would be putting the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the CiC (Obama.)

Frankly, I'm glad they didn't. Not every evildoer in the world is a criminal, and not every evildoer in the world merits the dignity of trial and the attached rights of an accused person.Well, it was mostly a success. I'd have preferred that the pirates surrender and face justice. But, them's the breaks when you decide to brandish firearms, take hostages, and threaten people's lives.

I believe the word you're looking for is "hippopotamus," Jeeves.
You are correct sir!

Pirates, terrorists, and the like....they are the epitome of the unlawful combatant, waging an undeclared war against the foundations of civilization itself. Justice is them being hunted down and killed like the subhuman scum that they are. They do not deserve trials, they do not deserve mercy, they do not deserve one second of life longer than the time it takes to get them lined up in a gun sight.
Just a damn shame one of them is still breathing. That's the only blemish I see on this effort.
I don't think they're "subhuman scum." They're very much human, trying to make ends meet for themselves in the third world, backwater hellhole they were born into. Most of these pirates act in an almost honorable way, virtually never killing (the death of the French hostage during the raid is the first I've heard of them actually killing someone) and never reneging on a deal. This was the exception rather than the rule, where the pirates took back one of their own without giving back the Captain. It could have secured them their lives, had the chosen to surrender and give up the captain. However, they decided to put a $2 million price tag on the captain's head and secured their own deaths instead. At least there was one of them sane enough to save his own life. God bless him.
