Revealed: inside story of US envoy's assassination
Exclusive: America 'was warned of embassy attack but did nothing'
KIM SENGUPTA
The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach, The Independent can reveal.
American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.
The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".
Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.
According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.
Mr Stevens had been on a visit to Germany, Austria and Sweden and had just returned to Libya when the Benghazi trip took place with the US embassy's security staff deciding that the trip could be undertaken safely.
Eight Americans, some from the military, were wounded in the attack which claimed the lives of Mr Stevens, Sean Smith, an information officer, and two US Marines. All staff from Benghazi have now been moved to the capital, Tripoli, and those whose work is deemed to be non-essential may be flown out of Libya.

There isn't enough information yet. It's best to wait and get the facts. This speculation helps no one.
Putting more links up isn't going to support your claim here. No official statement has been made and no source has been named. We don't know what Obama knew, or what was done with the information. We don't know if increased security we in place. We don't know anything. It's only been 3 days. There is an ongoing investigation. Most of what is being writin is speculation.
The one thing we do know however is that Obama skipped his intelligence briefing the day after the ambassador was murdered. Chances are that you and I will know what happened before Obama does.
***********************************************************************************************
According to the public schedule of the president, the last time the Obama attended his daily intelligence meeting was Sept. 5 — a week before Islamist radicals stormed our embassy in Cairo and terrorists killed our ambassador to Tripoli. The president was scheduled to hold the intelligence meeting at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, the day after the attacks, but it was canceled so that he could comfort grieving employees at the State Department — as well he should. But instead of rescheduling the intelligence briefing for later in the day, Obama apparently chose to skip it altogether and attend a Las Vegas fundraiser for his re-election campaign. One day after a terrorist attack.
Marc Thiessen: Obama alone: This president does not need intel briefers - The Washington Post
If you had read on, the article said he gets his briefings each morning and does not always have advisors present the information to him. Raegan didn't attend meetings either, he had his briefings delivered in film. This does not mean the President doesn't know what's going on. Each president has a different way of studying the information they need to know.
yes, but given his self-proffessed tendency to think that he is smarter than all of his advisors, this is worrisome.
that being said, the idea that information that "our embassies or consulates may be targeted" should have translated to "therefore we need to deploy FAST company to the consulate in Benghazi" is.... not accurate.

White House: Obama not skipping intel briefings – CNN Security Clearance - CNN.com Blogs
The article you were working from was an opinoiin piece. If this was not an election year, this would be a non issue.
this article doesn't say anything new. he doesn't attend a briefing, he doesn't attend a VTC, he just get's the folder handed to him and skims through or reads through as he feels he has time.
Now this is a disgrace.
I heard rumor that Obama received a Presidential Daily Briefing letter that was titled:
"Osama bin Laden determined to strike in the US embassies"
It's funny to watch people cling to heresay with fervent outrage after having dismissed actual fact and evidence when it's convenient.
Yeah your right, two sources that have independently reported that warning was given is most certainly wrong because you wish it to be
Interested to see if this pans out as legitimate. If so this would be a fairly incredible failure and what has largely been viewed as Mitt Romney goofing would turn into a possibly career ending blow to Obama.
Deadly embassy attacks were days in the making
CAIRO -- Days of planning and online promotion by hard-line Islamist leaders helped whip up the mobs that stormed the U.S. Embassy in Egypt and launched a deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya that killed an ambassador and three others.
As the U.S. tightened security worldwide at embassies and Libya's president apologized for the attack, details emerged of how the violence began, according to experts who monitor Egyptian media.
--------------
The protest was planned by Salafists well before news circulated of an objectionable video ridiculing Islam's prophet, Mohammed, said Eric Trager, an expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo was announced Aug. 30 by Jamaa Islamiya, a State Department-designated terrorist group, to protest the ongoing imprisonment of its spiritual leader, Sheikh Omar abdel Rahman. He is serving a life sentence in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
When the video started circulating, Nader Bakkar, the spokesman for the Egyptian Salafist Noor party, which holds about 25% of the seats in parliament, called on people to go to the embassy. He also called on non-Islamist soccer hooligans, known as Ultras, to join the protest.
On Monday, the brother of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri, Mohamed al Zawahiri, tweeted that people should go to the embassy and "defend the prophet," Trager said.

Debunked? LOL. The usual suspects denied it.I see you got the daily GOP talking points. There are similar threads like this, and it has already been debunked.
Is that really what you think? Or are you just taking that "Hail Mary" pass as you team goes down to defeat?
It sure sounds like that.
