Monarchy was a system where the people didn't matter, just a few with wealth and power. The US was created to give the people power, self-rule, and not allow a few to own/control/harm others for their benefit. We have returned to oligarchy, and the people don't matter to the oligarchs. It's a question whether the country will move toward democracy or further entrench oligarchy, and it appears more likely the latter.

Because too many American can't tell the difference between democracy, and being pandered to to manipulate them by powers who exploit them. The old Ben Franklin quip about 'a republic if you can keep it' seems never more relevant. We've never before had one of our two parties threaten democracy like currently, with every branch corrupted. Many countries settle in to these authoritarian systems.

The 'real power' in the US is not the people, not the officials, but the oligarchs, who can spend money to fuel a political manipulation machine that decides who is elected.

And that oligarchy class is at war with democracy, and threatening to kill democracy with many weapons, including the Palantir and related surveillance and tools for control, the turning of America's military power into control over the American people, and more.
