My entitled mentality is "I am an American and I deserve to say everything I want," but as far as lifestyle, no way. Frankly, I know you're not big on the liberals, but have you noticed the massive amount of liberals transitioning to models of sustainable living? They actually base a big part of their lives on reducing human impact on the natural world, not to mention the historical bleeding-heart types who would give their last dollar to a family in need of a meal.
Conservatives donate more to charities than liberals, so it's not like one side cares and the other doesn't. Churches and shelters and many organizations run entirely or almost entirely from private donors, and even the website we're conversing via depends on human generosity to maintain itself. When I look around America, I see people who are working very hard, have taken on a lot of responsibility, and are trying the best they can. According to my Facebook page, I currently am friends with some 500 people (a vast overstatement) and aside from a handful I barely know, I'd say 1 or 2 of them is a spoiled rich person who thinks they deserve everything. You should look at all the people you know and see how many of them are spoiled and want to take, take take and never give back. And then if you don't know those people, what makes you so sure that everybody else does know them?
You keep saying that but provide no sources. Farmers work on farms, their wives and kids work on farms but as far as farm labor goes I think their are very few Americans that do the circuit unless you mean recent LEGAL Mexican immigrants.
I didn't see a farm labor stat in there just agriculture, fishing forestry and hunting.
Personally, I think since about 1890, people have been spoiled. It all started to go downhill once they had Montgomery Ward distribution!
So a BLS website with statistics for agriculture labor has absolutely nothing to do with farm labor? Really?
You're stretching.....
Agriculture fishing and forestry includes high skill high pay jobs like logging and commercial fishing and foresters, you are the one stretching. Show me some farm labor stats.
Agriculture, also called farming or husbandry, is the cultivation of animals, plants, fungi, and other life forms for food, fiber, biofuel and other products used to sustain human life.[1] Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that nurtured the development of civilization. The study of agriculture is known as agricultural science. Agriculture generally speaking refers to human activities, although it is also observed in certain species of ant and termite.[2][3] The word agriculture is the English adaptation of Latin agricultūra, from ager, "a field",[4] and cultūra, "cultivation" in the strict sense of "tillage of the soil".[5] Thus, a literal reading of the word yields "tillage of fields".
When I was a kid in the 50s everyone except movie stars and Randolph Hearst lived in modest homes, drove modest cars and took modest vacations. Mom and dad loaded all 4 of us kids in the station wagon with the 16 ft Terry behind us and we went camping. Now you see people in 200K motor homes "camping". Houses are now huge and having a maid to clean it and a gardener to mow the lawn is common. Kids wear $200.00 tennis shoes, I wore PF Fliers. I could go on and on and give example after example but I think you get the point. IMO opinion Americans have become greedy, spoiled, voracious, rapacious consumers and I get sick of hearing people whine about not having enough. We have developed an entitlement mentality, "I am an American and I deserve to have everything I want". Makes me sick.
Unfortunately our last election proves there is a slight majority in this country that thinks they are owed something simply because they are Americans. They seem to believe that obama's plans for redistribution of wealth are laudable and are basically voting themselves money. It's all downhill from here.
All I am asking for is a pure farm labor stat without lumping in logging, commercial fishing, forestry etc. You have all day to look becuse I am off to do some "logging" as in not farm labor. Good luck.
Sorry but I'm not going to do all of your homework. You made the claim that the majority of farmhands were illegals. It is up to you to provide the evidence to back up your assertion.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/04/world/americas/04iht-export.4.7380436.html?_r=0The Department of Labor has reported that 53 percent of the 2.5 million farm workers in the United States are illegal immigrants, though growers and labor unions say as much as 70 percent of younger field hands are illegal.

There you go again, comparing apples to oranges to make the typical 'angry old man' rant.
We were not movie star rich by any means but we had a maid come in twice a week to help with the house. Us kids were paid to mow, weed, paint and work as adults for the family.
Now let's look at your PF flyers and the 200 dollah sneakers. In 1950 dollars the 200 dollar sneakers would be priced at 24 bucks! Not quite rant worthy...
Our 3.60 gas would be 43 cents. A $160,000 dollar house would run $19,207.68. A $24,000 SUV would be $2,881.15
Even if we leave out how more complex and safe a modern SUV is compared to a 1950's station wagon it still is a bargain.
Unless you paid cash on the barrel head you had a very limited ability to purchase the more pricey goods. Credit, as we know it, was just beginning to be a gleam in the financial sector's eye.
Course we could go back to log cabins and horses...
I recall someone else making a similar dismissal of our citizens, saying we were lazy, decadent, selfish- capable of producing only jazz, nylons and razor blades (at the time all considered very decadent)
Wonder what happened to him?

First off I'm not old, I'm" semi old! I can sum up my OP in one sentence so that maybe you can get it. Ready?
When I was a kid nobody was ever mugged, stabbed, shot or killed for his pair of PF Fliers.
Of course I don't mean everybody, I just see the attitude I speak of in the OP becoming more and more prevalent in our society.
I find it amusing how people here feel like cellphone and internet connections are "luxury items". I wouldn't hire anyone lacking those two essential things (even for a retail gig). As to 'putting' those on welfare to work... So we expect white single mothers (very common), to drive hundreds of miles to work in a field (piece work for under minimum wage) for 10 hours. Drive all the way home on a wage that wouldn't support her children anyway. While also putting her in a position where she would not have the available free time to get her s### together. Get an education, get a real job (at least 60k a year) and finally start contributing back to the system that provided her an opportunity. It continues to amaze me how people fail to see what welfare is for. It isn't just "free" money, there is a social contract component. If they do succeed in life they will contribute more back into the system then they took and in turn help others in need.
LMAO, sorry dude you are OLD!
When you was a kid you had no clue what happened 20 miles away, much less in some big city. I'll wager a shiny nickle people have been killed for three dollars in their pocket since before you was a gleam in your Daddy's eye. That you don't know what happened in the big city 'back in the day' and can now fixate on 24/7 news and endless bytes of blogger sphere rhetoric isn't the issue here.
Let me try and explain it to you- EVERY generation thinks the next generation has it too good/is spoiled rotten/has lost touch with the frontiersman/cares too much about 'luxuries'...
You never listened to your grandpa?
Back in my day we didn't have GI Joes we had rocks! And we was damn glad to have them! Nobody was mugged for their rocks, I can tell you that! Well ok, there was that Caine/Able thing but they weren't WASPs and you know how THAT kind is....
Haven't you heard, 60 is the new 40

That would technically be a "No" because we have been for a long time - even when you were a kid.Poll: Have Americans become greedy little spoiled scum bags.
The problem is all these people on welfare that refuse to take jobs Mexicans come here in droves to fill. When I hear how Americans won't do these jobs I say pull their welfare and they will take these jobs. When I was young I picked apples and planted trees in clear cuts which is almost all done by Mexicans now. I wasn't "too good" to work.
