Trump is old school baby boomer, born in 1946 and growing up in the era where the USA was the only remaining industrial power, Europe having been smashed by WWII.

That was a great time for American Industrial and wealth opportunity. Most Baby Boomers have a highly America First ideological upbringing.

Trump, like many of his generation, would love to see the USA "back on top," and to stay there.

So to assume it is all fake is IMO a misunderstanding of where he is coming from.

How he wants us to get "back there" and if it is worth it is what is at issue to current voting groups.

That's what made us thrive in the first place. What made us sink is the greed and the screwing of the entire country so the top few get all the money and the perks.

SEcondly, you say it equally applies to democrats, but provide absolutely no evidence or explanation why. My post above highlighted things democrats support that are things that actually help the country.

What have republicans done lately, on state and federal level? Ban abortion, make voting harder (how does that put America first) and other methods to destroy voting, target homosexuals and transgenders, attack companies that say things they don't like. how is that helping America? And worse than that, blocking things that would help americans (improved healthcare, infrastructure, green energy to get us off foreign oil dependence and being reliant on shady partners and questionable countries)

Or is your view of "America first' only for white, christian conservatives. Because that is all the GOP care about, meanwhile, Dems fight for things that will help the GOP voting base the most

When it comes to things like the economy as Slap Happy Grandpappy was talking about, I take a quite different approach. Presidents from both parties often get too much credit for a robust economy under their watch, and too much blame when it goes the other way during their presidency.
But apart from those key errors, you nailed it with your well thought out "I know you are but what about me?"
