So I a couple credit cars from my college days I never activated. I recently checked my credit and all are in good standing (meaning no one has been illegally using them) with all but the card I actually use having no balance. Now I hear that some firms like BoA (who I don't have a card with) are going to charge fees and that some people are getting unactivated charges.

Is it legal to charge fees on cards that were never activated?

And how does one go about canceling these unactivated cards without the card itself (which I shredded)?

Furthermore, I hear that unactivated cards only go into your credit score for a year. All of my unactivated are well in excess of that.
