FORT HOOD, Texas – A key U.S. senator said Sunday he would begin an investigation into whether the Army missed signs that the man accused of opening fire at Fort Hood had embraced an increasingly extremist view of Islamic ideology.
Sen. Joe Lieberman's call for the investigation came as word surfaced that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan apparently attended the same Virginia mosque as two Sept. 11 hijackers in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there. Whether Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

Imagine that, this is going to cause problems for all of you who do not want him to be tied to jihadist. We wouldn't want poor Major Hasan to be called a terrorist. Its just not politically correct.

I'm hate saying this but the officers above this wacko should be held to account for dereliction of duty. Even in the private sector as an Executive Manager of a facility is responsible for the actions of his or her subordinates with special emphasis on Junior Managers and I believe the Military is not less stringent in it's demands on it's Senior officers. Responsibility is a burden reserved hopefully for those willing and able to handle it. In this case the failures are glaringly obvious.Classmates participating in a 2007-2008 master's program at a military college complained repeatedly to superiors about what they considered Hasan's anti-American views. Dr. Val Finnell said Hasan gave a presentation at the Uniformed Services University that justified suicide bombing and told classmates that Islamic law trumped the U.S. Constitution.

Could you please provide names of those who "do not want him to be tied to jihadist" and some quote showing this as true, or are you just full of bluff and bluster as you talk out your ass about imaginary people?
Good on Lieberman to call for investigations. If the same mosque is connected to more and more of these that particular mosque should probably be looked at more closely.
I hate political correctness for the most part...
But I don't understand how the crowd that gets amazingly pissed off when you say "Guns Kill" and retorts with "No, PEOPLE kill people. Stop blaming other things and blame the individuals doing it" can turn around and go "PC kills"

Ah. SgtRock, you're back. Perhaps you can clarify something
This is your quote. You are claerly through in tense speaking to people who would be reading your post here on this forum. Could you please provide proof with names and quotes of these supposed people who "do not want him to be tied to jihadists"? I'm very curious and would like to see you actually back up your assertion to show there's actually a point to the accuastions you made in this thread.
I'm not going to move on to other points you make when you can't/won't even back up the very first one you made.

Oooooh
You were talking to the media.
I didn't realize that you apparently have the impression we have a large number of mainstream media members that post here since you said...
Seemed like you were talking specifically about certain people on this forum that'd be reading this, since you say problems "for all of you" seeming to reference the forum and not "for all the media".
Care to enlighten us as to which mainstream media members you suspect are forum members?
Fort Hood Army Massacre Shooter Has Possible 9/11 Link
Nidal Malik Hasan, who savagely opened fire on his fellow servicemen in Fort Hood, Texas last week, killing 12 and injuring dozens others, may have a link to 9/11. Hasan attended a Virginia mosque at the same time as two of the 9/11 hijackers, and the FBI is now investigating whether there is a connection between the men.

'Possible'?
So nothing confirmed then?
This is -far- more concrete than the usual justification for the "Bush lied about an Iraq/9-11 link" claim. By the standards of the people that support said claim, there should be NO question that the Ft Hood shooter was linked to the terrorists that attacked us in 9-11.No it's been confirmed that he attended the same Mosque as 2 of the hijackers, what has not been confirmed is whether or not he knew them, but he for certain knew their shared radical wahhabist Iman Anwar al Awlaki and that he emailed him upto 20 times before the attacks, that's the link.
Yes, it looks perfectly clear. A mentally disturbed individual that subscribed to an extreme ideology segment of islam was set to be shipped out to the actual front lines and rather than do that, or flee, decided dto essentially martyr himself.
There's still no evidence of him actually having direct links or planning with a terrorist organization, that he was striving to send some large kind of political message, or inspire fear into the population more so than simply killing people. I still see it at this point as a mass murder perpetrated by a islamic extremist, not a "terrorist" attack. My statement on that would remain the same rather it's Obama or Bush in control. If a clear tie to a terrorist organization in some way is found then I'll be more apt to say this was a planned terrorist attack; as it stands it still seems to be a religiously motivated mass murder.
I don't think many people are going to disagree that it was inspired in part due to radical Islamist views. I think people have issues when they try to say islam, general normal islam, was the sole reason for this.
If this man wasn't adhering to a seemingly extreme version of the ideology, this likely wouldn't have happened. If he didn't have the emotional and mental qualities that lead such a person to gravitate to such an ideology, this likely would've never happened. If we were fighting china or russia rather than predominantly muslim middle eastern countries, this likely wouldn't have happened. I think people trying to pin this almost singularly on Islam in general are absolutely ignorant on this issue and simply trying to score political points. But its absolutely impossible to try and legitimately say that radical extremist islamist views did not play a large part into causing this to occur.
He was a terrorist. A latent cell that acted independently of the command structure. It's important that we view him as such.
How did this loon get into the army?
