Usually i only got alerts when someone quoted me or reacted to me.

Now i also get alerts when someone starts are thread … or replies to something …. Without any connection to me.

How come?

I always get an alert if there is a new post on a thread which I have posted on as well as those quoting me or reacting to me.

No, that is not the case …..i get this when a thread is opened

It could perhaps if you are watching an entire subforum, to get alerts when new threads are posted or posts.

Check the top of the subforum from which the alerts are coming, or just check all of them.

i am sure i never marked anything with watch

it gets annoying..... when the symbol appears i naturally think i have been quoted .... but no .....

It's the only thing I can think of that would cause alerts for new threads and threads you haven't participated in. I can assure you there is no ghost in the machine.
