I just spent half an hour having Perplexity spin a series of stories. Excerpt:
Inciting Incident:
Adena, Maya, and Kirra are alerted by Manmi Eloise: there are omens of unrest—fish dying in the river, strange static in the church’s sound system, and cryptic messages appearing on guests’ phones. Simbi Ganga is near, drawn by the convergence of tradition, water, and digital networks.

Rising Action:
On the wedding day, subtle disruptions escalate:
  • The water in the church font turns murky, and guests experience unsettling visions.
  • The live video feed glitches, showing brief flashes of serpentine eyes and cryptic symbols.
  • The wedding band’s instruments emit discordant notes, and the officiant’s microphone distorts his words into warnings and threats.
Adena and Maya, blending in as guests, realize the ceremony’s rituals—exchanging rings, vows, and the blessing of water—are being twisted by Simbi Ganga’s influence. The hybrid is attempting to use the collective energy of the wedding to open a new crossroads, spreading its corruption into the hearts of all present and through the livestream to viewers worldwide.

Complication:
As the couple exchanges vows, Simbi Ganga manifests, half-human, half-serpent, manipulating water and digital screens to create chaos. Guests panic, and the sacred water shrine beneath the hotel begins to flood, threatening to drown the city’s spiritual protections.

Climax:
Adena, Maya, Kirra, and Manmi Eloise combine their powers in a desperate ritual, using the wedding’s symbols—rings (unity), vows (promise), and water (life)—to purify the corrupted currents. Celeste, revealing her own hidden gifts, joins the guardians, invoking her family’s ancestral spirits. Together, they sever Simbi Ganga’s hold on the ritual, transforming the chaos into a blessing that strengthens the community’s bonds.
I mean, things like this are always what you imagine them to be, good or bad, I think, but it has potential.

You can use prompting like this to build a whole novel. Guide the LLM through three acts, have it divide into chapters, even write them one by one for you At this point you might prefer to write your own dialogue and prose though, as it's not particularly skilled, but yes it can write a whole novel.

Gemini or Claude are good for this.

Considering some of the crap novels I've read in my life I would love some by AI.

Human doesn't mean better.

We were suppose to use AI to get rid of the endless toil of repetitive and mindless tasks and use the extra time to give humanity the ability to further explore its artistic talents and philosophical pursuits.

One of the first goddamned things we're using it to automate away is art, so that the capitalist class can take even more of the profit from art.

It usually requires heavy proofreading.

AI storytelling is surface fine, but structurally rigid, contextually and emotionally shallow, and perhaps unintentionally perfectly logical. Unless each part is reworked heavily with more specific prompts by a human, it will be flat and lifeless. Once the various parts all go together, it can often lose direction and become meandering because it doesn't have the ability to keep that attention to detail across the necessary amount of text at once (yet, that's a hardware limitation.)
