AI is making us dumb....

So is the one I posted.

Point is: AI is a powerful tool, like calculators, computers, Google, etc... The same thing was said about all those things too when they came out. My grandfather was amazing at how much math he could do in his head. I remember he was very concerned that all those newfangled calculators were going to make us all dumb. Maybe they have, in a certain way- but I wouldn't trade my calculator in to become "smarter". I have better things to do with my time now.

Whether anty of these tools make you dumb or smart depends on how you use them. They are capable of doing both.
RE: . . . I wouldn't trade my calculator in to become "smarter". I have better things to do with my time now.

I felt much the same way about my abacus, and then my slide rule, and then my Texas Instruments TI-2500 and then it was surrender from then on . . .

So apparently, relying on AI is making people dumber. Not having to do the actual work, deprives the brain of learning.

Research conducted by OpenAI found that its latest and most powerful reasoning models, o3 and o4-mini, hallucinated 33% and 48% of the time, respectively, when tested by OpenAI's PersonQA benchmark. That's more than double the rate of the older o1 model. While o3 delivers more accurate information than its predecessor, it appears to come at the cost of more inaccurate hallucinations.

Making

"......At the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference, Elon Musk gyrated on stage wielding a chainsaw in celebration of the firing of American government workers and a plan to replace them with government artificial intelligence (AI). Intoxicated by his new government powers, Musk danced on the professional graves of military generals, social workers and nurses, nuclear weapons specialists, parks employees, scientists, researchers, air traffic controllers, pollution inspectors and social security workers......"

It's as if cons just can't help but to admit that they're the most gullible people on the planet, dumber than doorknobs and likely doing great harm.

Actually the ability to recognize a tool and use it to improve your efficiency increases your intelligence, it doesn't diminish it.

Working harder does not make a person smarter, it makes them stupider.

This is how humanity has evolved.

We used fire to make our lives easier.

We used agriculture to make our lives easier.

We developed factories to make our lives easier.

We invented electricity to make our lives easier.

The less your work your brain has to do on mundane tasks allows it to expand to other areas of exploration and innovation.

Learning to use it and recognizing its limitations are necessary.

Too many people rely on it, and AI often gives wrong answers leading to problems.

I think it can make the younger ones dumber for not having to exercise basic thinking skills, but it also adds to our ability to reach further in comprehension. I had a couple of conversations where I learned as AI expounded on a subject I knew well.

I play trivia with a team competing against other teams at a local brewery every Thursday. We do not cheat, however, occasionally a new team will show up and get every question correct - because they are cheating. Anyhow, it has occurred to me, what is the point of knowing stuff, if we all have a know-it-all computer in our pockets? Do we really need a lot of knowledge these days?

If I see something in Latin, it takes me just seconds to look it up, so why would I need to know Latin? If I have a complicated math question, I can solve it with my phone, why learn math? Really, what's the point anymore?

That's why I do not play Chess online.

I am not going to blame AI for the stupidity of our masses. I blame the Department of Education run by democrat who has not raised up our kids who cannot read or do basic math but know their gender choices. When an ivy league college has to order remedial math classes, hello Houston we have a problem.
