AG Garland weighs in on the hearings

do you realize how much sane people are laughing at you "adults" who were taken by on old, obvious con man?
As opposed to the 81 million of you that voted for an different old con man?

We should remember that it is Justice Department policy not to indict a sitting president. This is why Mueller didn't pursue Trump personally. Always remember Mueller specifically said:

"As set forth in the report, after the investigation, if we had confidence that the president did not clearly commit a crime, we would have said so."

They didn't say so. The Mueller Report did not clear the president according to Mueller.

Of course, if the republicans win the House and go after Biden, that policy will be under assault.
Mueller wasn't tasked with declaring innocence. Innocence is presumed. His task was to find evidence of a crime(s), if any, and present that to the AG. You know this. Mueller didn't hire prosecutors to "clear" Trump.

The only sane people in this country are those of us who are independents or moderates and didn’t accept a choice between two old, obvious, con men.

And your “choice” is?

Ridiculous false equivalence.

Biden isn't perfect by any means but he is very far from even being in the same ball park as trump.

Mueller wasn't tasked with declaring innocence.
Which makes it all the more profound for his report to say that. And right on queue the Trumpers called Mueller - life-long Republican - a "political hack" for it, instead of recognizing their Mango Unchained idol for what he was/is.

Probably because the committee chair said that they won’t be making any referrals to the DOJ.
They don't need to. A referral is nothing more than a wish letter. If Garland has the goods on Trump, he sure doesn't need anything from congress.

Sure he is. The man is barely lucid and lies all the time.
That is detached from reality. He maybe a sick older man, but he's no conman. Trump on the other hand knows exactly who he's ripping off and why. To satisfy his own greed.

A bunch of insiders also told him that the investigation into his connections to Russia were legitimate. It wasn't.
It was

Schiff told EVERYONE that Trump's motivation for talking to Zelensky was campaign related. It wasn't.
It was

After all the lies everyone told about Trump why would he POSSIBLY believe that the election was legitimate?

But all the above is a moot point.

Why?

You're saying 'insiders' but who are you talking about? You're talking about his opponents. Schiff, Mueller, etc.

It is in supporters who are 'insiders' now who are telling him that the election was legitimate. Everyone who testified at the hearing were originally on Team Trump.

Hell yes, he had every reason to believe them.

It's not really a 'Justice Dept Policy'. It was an OLC memo, written during watergate, that suddenly, Mueller, decided quite arbitrary he had to adhere to.

In my view, I think he did that because he just wanted to avoid controversy and decided to steer the investigation in the direction of being merely a vehicle for a report to congress,
passing that one huge hot potato to them.

In fact, Barr testified early on that he wondered why Mueller did that.

God, such stupid bullshit. He wants to gaslight us into thinking that Trump called up Zelensky after unlawfully withholding military aid to demand "favors", namely, announcement of sham investigations into Hunter Biden but this wasn't related to his campaign against Joe Biden.

The hell it wasn't. It was the entire reason he wanted Zelensky to do it. The whole point is if that he could get Zelensky to announce he was initiating an investigation into Burisma/ Hunter, it would cast a bad light on Joe, and thus helping Trump with his election chances. It was the entire motivation for him wanting Zelensky to do that, and it's well established that Trump did actually care if Zelensky would order a real investigation, he just wanted him to announce it, and Trump was withholding aid promised to Ukraine Congress until Zelensky agreed. That's a quid pro quo from a foreign government for private gain, which is illegal and an abuse of power, one of the articles of impeachment. And don't give me any crap he was 'acquitted'. Senate republicans were spineless cowards afraid of Trump's notorious bullying, mean tweets, fears of being primaried. Trump, more than any president in history, has a tremendous cult following of some 65 million people all whom he could get to turn against any senator with a button push of his cell phone on Twitter. Being acquitted by cowards doesn't equal exoneration. Back in the days of Nixon, Republicans were made of sterner stuff. Not today.

Yeah ok, kegger guy. I swear, you'll tell any lie. You have to. You'd implode from shame if you had to admit fault.

In your dreams.

He either knew it was a free and fair election and manufactured the lie to stay in power...or he is delusional. Either way how people can still stick with this guy is unbelievable. They too are either liars or delusional.

In fact, both are true.

"I will be watching all the hearings... and I can assure you all the January 6 PROSECUTORS are watching all the hearings as well" US AG Merrick Garland

I think it's interesting he felt the need to add that the prosecutors are watching when he wasn't asked about them, only himself.

Warms me heart!

(CUE Dragnet theme song, dum de dum dum...dum de dum dum dahhhhh )

Hah!!

How embarrassing to admit to that himself, and the entire justice department, are inept clowns. They need a kangaroo show trial, full of old and idiotic representatives to tell them stuff they should've been able to figure out themselves.

I agree with you but then again, Trump is just "one" person and the amount of damage "one" person can do is limited.

One person is killing thousands in Ukraine, and raising gas prices on 120,000,000 households in America, Putin.

One person tried to conquer Europe, kill millions of people, Hitler,

One person killed 45 million people in China, Mao Zedong.

Powerful people can do a lot of damage.

What worries me the most is the 40 million Trump supporters that blindly believe him and that were willing to invade the Capitol and generate a coup insurrection. Those are the people that need to be stopped as they are a big number than could have a big effect on our country.
Wait a minute, didn't you just say Trump couldn't do much damage? Hell, he's done more damage to AMerican democracy than any other person in history.

Is there any way we can build a huge jail area where 40 million crazy people can be instituted and not allowed to mingle/walk around with anyone outside of the jailed area?

Perhaps we can follow one of Trump's ideas and build a wall all around Texas and put all the Republicans there and have the United States become 51 States (instead of 52) and have Texas be the Republican home for the rest of their lives. Already Texas has a population of 30 million so putting 40 million there would not be much of a problem. That way, they could address the illegal immigration (much of which comes through Texas), have all the abortion rules they want in place and not have to find someone to run the State given they have the perfect man in Abbot for the Republicans to follow. Good idea?

Now you are just being silly.

I'll file this into the Wishful Thinking file.

Dream on.
