After university where I want to become a Chartered Accountant should I leave Canada or stay? I want to see different parts of the world and maybe live somewhere different. I have looked into places where I would want to go and Cape Town, South Africa seems to be a good place. In South Africa I make competitively many times what I would make in Canada due to the fact that CAs are hard to come by in South Africa and in Cape Town I could live in a rather large house in wealthy neighbourhoods and have a fair amount of disposable income, South Africa is also the main hub for the fast growing African economy. The downside to living in South Africa is I would have to but private everything, private medical insurance, private school tuition, etc. because the government services are not that great but are apparently getting better. The other worry is security but from what I have found if you live in the Southern or Northern suburbs crime isn't too much of an issue and is going down every year. The other country I was looking at is Australia but it's the opposite of South Africa in that it has a very high standard quality of life but the cost of living and taxes are astronomical. The question is should I live in a place where it is really cheap and I make a lot of money but I have to buy quality of life or should I live where it is expensive but high quality of life as standard.

Believe it or not they are interlinked and if I live in Cape Town, no matter where I will have some of the most stunning views in the world.

Oh I believe it seems that way to you. You should be wherever you think you will be happiest be that as close to your family and old friends as possible or as far as way from them as possible, for instance. The money will come either way. I think South Africa is a nice place, but I also think there is still a lot of bubbling unrest and very suspect people there. As someone who is "very liberal" is it going to bother you to be working for people whose money comes from screwing poor people and orphans out of their land?

Well South Africa is more central to everything so flying to different places would be easier. That bubbling unrest seems far less in the Western Cape and Cape Town as they are ruled by the Democratic Alliance and not the ANC. In South Africa it's the ANC doing the screwing.
