Didnt he get the Democrats to agree to negotiate in good faith or was that just a bunch of BS that we should not take seriouslyAfter today with the government reopening and the president getting nothing in return except the blame for the shutdown, I wonder if he thinks he's in over his head with the job?

[*]Dems got him to reopen the gov't.
[*]Dems got him to do so sans wall money...

[*]Dems had already in December 2018 "negotiated in good faith" when they and GOP-ers in Congress had passed H.R. 695, unanimously in the Senate, no less, which Trump had led McConnell to believe he'd sign.

So you think this just about getting the better of Trump and you think they succeeded in doing that because he agreed to give them 3 weeks of funding to get their **** together. I'm curious what you think is going to happen in 3 weeks if the Democrats continue their "just say no" campaign?

...and maybe he can claim that he is giving the Democrats three weeks to negotiate honestly for wall funding...ot the whole thing starts over again with THEM looking like THEY are unwilling to "compromise."
I didn't see penny one for the border wall request. That is not a compromise.
He wrote "negotiated in good faith".
Which they did. So did Republicans in Congress at that point. Even Trump signaled he would sign, via Mike Pence.
Everyone was on board, until Trump got scared after right wing nutters told him he's a sell-out. Trump broke that good faith.
So he decided to shut down government, and not blame the dems, but boy he tried to blame them...
It is true, Nancy did not have to compromise, Trump caved to her demand to re-open government, and continue the border security negotiations separately.
What's telling is the prism they are looking at this through. They are not celebrating Trump softening his position to give those 800,00 employees relief as they claimed was their concern. They are quick to claim victory and fast to celebrate what they think is a Trump loss.Maybe...

Meanwhile? The federal employees who continued to work get back pay, those who took a furlough start getting a few checks again. Maybe they won't tolerate the Democrats allowing it to happen all over again either.
Perhaps this setback isn't as much of onw as you hope...time will tell. :coffeepap:
Really?

So you dont expect to Democrats to negotiate in good faith and you think he was foolish to give them this opprotunity?no he didnt do that at all, he just gave into an offer that was made before lol
He got a commitment from Pelosi and Schumer to hold discussions on border security including physical barriers. Frankly, I think those two will double cross him, but come February 16th and no deal :hitsfan: He just handed responsibility for the NEXT shutdown to Chuck and Nancy. After today with the government reopening and the president getting nothing in return except the blame for the shutdown, I wonder if he thinks he's in over his head with the job?

This wasnt round 1. Seems to me this latest battle both sides softened their position. We will see what comes out of it next but they both took a step toward each other. In my opinion he lost round one. We'll see how round two turns out.
You have a right to an opinion. Probably me saying that is a foreign concept to a Progressive. :lamoIn my opinion he lost round one. We'll see how round two turns out.

I agree, rather than keeping score, everyone should be hoping for a positive outcome.Let's hope they keep stepping and don't allow the president to shutdown the government again, both parties.

Ok that's fair I guess. You're saying you dont care about immigration or border security as much as you care about hurting Trumps chances at being reelected. I'm not as jaded as you but if that's your position, so be it.We'll get to appoint the next supreme court justice?
