After today with the government reopening and the president getting nothing in return except the blame for the shutdown, I wonder if he thinks he's in over his head with the job?

Didnt he get the Democrats to agree to negotiate in good faith or was that just a bunch of BS that we should not take seriously

  1. Dems got him to reopen the gov't.
  2. Dems got him to do so sans wall money.
  3. Dems had already in December 2018 "negotiated in good faith" when they and GOP-ers in Congress had passed H.R. 695, unanimously in the Senate, no less, which Trump had led McConnell to believe he'd sign.

Nope....If anything Trump thinks:
- the country let him down
- the 115th and 116th Senates let him down
- the 115th House let him down
- his staff and particularly Steven Miller let him down
- traitorous dogs like Gen. Kelly let him down
- Wilber let him down
- the base let him down
- Coulter, Limbaugh et al let him down
- etc
- etc
- etc

Much of that is actually accurate. The problem for DonDon is that he made this bed and now he is laying in it. Its not so much that DonDon is in over his head as much as he is entirely out of his element playing on a field that he still does not understand nor know how to come to grips with and he rejects any possibility that anybody can or will actually help him. As goofy a Congressman as Mick the Quick was, he might be the only guy anywhere near close to him that can actually help him at least a bit.

The thing to remember about Donald is that none of this crap worked in business for him either. He:
- bankrupted 4 casinos (since when does the house LOSE)
- turned $420M in inheritance into a $930M deficit (try that some time!)
- personally brought down the USFL and a reasonably fine airline
- put himself on the outs with every decent commercial bank on the planet

Maybe...

...and maybe he can claim that he is giving the Democrats three weeks to negotiate honestly for wall funding...or the whole thing starts over again with THEM looking like THEY are unwilling to "compromise."

Meanwhile? The federal employees who continued to work get back pay, those who took a furlough start getting a few checks again. Maybe they won't tolerate the Democrats allowing it to happen all over again either.

Really?

I didn't see penny one for the border wall request. That is not a compromise.

Perhaps this "setback" isn't as much of one as you hope...time will tell. :coffeepap:

So you think this just about getting the better of Trump and you think they succeeded in doing that because he agreed to give them 3 weeks of funding to get their **** together. I'm curious what you think is going to happen in 3 weeks if the Democrats continue their "just say no" campaign?

no he didnt do that at all, he just gave into an offer that was made before lol

theres no logical or rational scenario i can think of where if the government closes again over this issue that the majority of blame isnt still on trump.

of course i think they all play a role and "share" blame but the majority falls on trump. A a person may convince themselves its equal blame even if that cant really be supported logically but theres no honest rational that moves the blame to the dems, none LMAO

He wrote "negotiated in good faith".
Which they did. So did Republicans in Congress at that point. Even Trump signaled he would sign, via Mike Pence.

You introduced "compromise".

Everyone was on board, until Trump got scared after right wing nutters told him he's a sell-out. Trump broke that good faith.
So he decided to shut down government, and not blame the dems, but boy he tried to blame them...

It is true, Nancy did not have to compromise, Trump caved to her demand to re-open government, and continue the border security negotiations separately.

She did the right thing. I hope he never tries to use the people that way again. He didn't suffer - certainly Wilbur Ross didn't suffer and none of them can even relate.

What's telling is the prism they are looking at this through. They are not celebrating Trump softening his position to give those 800,00 employees relief as they claimed was their concern. They are quick to claim victory and fast to celebrate what they think is a Trump loss.

I was pleasantly surprised by Pelosi today who did not do a victory lap and chastised the press who tried to bait her into taking one. She acknowledged what Trump did for what it was and sounded ready to negotiate.

I think mitch kept silent and did not bring a vote to the floor to protect his senators, not because trump said he won't pass it without wall money. When trump shutdown the government with his big mouth, he put the senators of the GOP into the position if they defended him, the public opinion would really hurt them. If they bucked him, the base would punish them even more. So McConnell did what he could to delay the vote and not put them into the position to have to do anything but keep their heads down. The dems never had to concede anything, they didn't shut down the government and nancy was well aware of her position of strength. With that said, I think there is no way mitch lets the prez shut down the government again in three weeks. A solution will be found where both parties can claim victory and I really feel is the prez won't sign, the congress will overrule him. These senators are not going to sacrifice their seats with another shutdown in three weeks for this guy and longer.

So you dont expect to Democrats to negotiate in good faith and you think he was foolish to give them this opprotunity?

He got a commitment from Pelosi and Schumer to hold discussions on border security including physical barriers. Frankly, I think those two will double cross him, but come February 16th and no deal :hitsfan: He just handed responsibility for the NEXT shutdown to Chuck and Nancy.

In my opinion he lost round one. We'll see how round two turns out.

This wasnt round 1. Seems to me this latest battle both sides softened their position. We will see what comes out of it next but they both took a step toward each other.

You have a right to an opinion. Probably me saying that is a foreign concept to a Progressive. :lamo

Let's hope they keep stepping and don't allow the president to shutdown the government again, both parties.

We'll get to appoint the next supreme court justice?

I agree, rather than keeping score, everyone should be hoping for a positive outcome.

No, it's wonderful. One of your few not outright negative comments, bravo to you.

Ok that's fair I guess. You're saying you dont care about immigration or border security as much as you care about hurting Trumps chances at being reelected. I'm not as jaded as you but if that's your position, so be it.

In my opinion of over sixty five years, this president is the worst I've ever seen. I would like to see him out of office as soon as possible. Do I hate him? No. Once he's gone I won't give him much thought at all. I think he is either directly or indirectly in cahoots with putin. I think he's a crook and has been for years, He has no morals grabbing women he pleases because he's the donald. How the republican party ever elected this sorry scam artist is beyond me. Support him all you like it's your choice, I'm only telling you why I don't support him, and that's just a few reasons. And it gets tiring listening to you guys always accuse the left of being weak on border security and wanting open borders. That's just hogwash and should really be put to bed.

No, I don't think anything the Dems have done since the start of January is "just about getting the better of Trump." I think getting the better of Trump is merely the fun part of what Dems have done since the start of January.
