Ya, Russia has spent its stuff, time to make it a two Party world, China and US.

Won’t happen, for the simple reason that it opens the door for the US to be expelled next time we launch a “liberation operation”

The League of Nations collapsed shortly thereafter, due to WWII. And because the three most important nations (USA, USSR, Germany) were not members.

There is value in having an open forum where all countries can talk to each other, regardless of how awful they are. I would be opposed to expelling Russia from the UN.

Don't see it happening even if it should.

But if it could I think the UN needs to be culled of any anti-democratic members. Obviously level of 'democratic' can vary from country to country (of course the USA is hardly a shining example), but I think anyone connected to reality can agree Saudi Arabia and Russia are not democratic states and should not have a say/vote on global matters.

Which means that a vast chunk of the world— including numerous American allies— wouldn’t have a say, and thus rendering it pretty much meaningless.

John McCain once proposed a Concert of Democracies, which was an idea I always liked. It would be a UN-like organization comprised of democratic nations, but with the ability to add and remove members as they fell in/out of compliance with democratic norms.

I think the key thing is that this would be a parallel organization to the UN, rather than a replacement. Both would have value as a global forum, but they would have different purposes.

If we truly believe authoritarian nations are not representatives of their people then they are just imposters with the bigger guns. It seems rather ridiculous to me that authoritarian states get a seat in what is supposed to be a democratic organization.

This may be more doable/realistic than culling the UN. I never agreed with McCain on much but I do like this idea better.

The question is how do we distinguish the democratic nations from the undemocratic ones. I have a few idea but interested what others think.

Well, think of it this way: you could make a pretty strong case that India isn’t really democratic at this point. China certainly isn’t. Between them that’s about two billion people. An intentional organization that just disregards that much of the globe isn’t much of an international organization.

And the UN has never really been a democratic organization. The US itself wouldn’t have qualified as such at the time of its creation.

Don't like this idea. The next MAGA president will just use it as an excuse to say the US needs to kick itself out of the UN.

I agree, there are definitely nations like India that are more on the fence.

And the UN has never really been a democratic organization. The US itself wouldn’t have qualified as such at the time of its creation.

But I do think the spirit of the United Nations is democratic.

Certainly the US was less democratic at the time of the UN's creation. However, even with its problems oppressing minority groups, the US was still far more democratic compared to most other nations at the time.

Given democracy is bad and no country on earth is actually democracy, you are basically advocating for no UN at all.

Given democracy is bad

Given that you're a fascist, of course you think this.

and no country on earth is actually democracy,

This is a No True Scotsman. There are countries that are more democratic than others. If a country holds its power strictly through military/police force and refuses to hold open and fair elections then they are no better than warlords.

Just so that we’re clear, to you “fascist” is a slur for anyone not fully on board with the left

Why is prop 8 not the law in California? If we’re a democracy homosexual “marriage” wouldn’t exist in America. You don’t actually support democracy, you at best support some level of democratic elections for representatives, but even then the left doesn’t believe representatives should hold any real policy power

I consider anyone who is a far right authoritarian to be a fascist and you certainly fit the bill.

You need to elaborate on this. It makes zero sense.

You don’t actually support democracy, you at best support some level of democratic elections for representatives, but even then the left doesn’t believe representatives should hold any real policy power

This is bullshit. Most left-libertarians like myself believe in having elected representatives as long as it is the most practical way of governing (and so long as we remain a nation-state it will remain the most practical way, at least in our lifetimes). And even under anarchist communes, the people would still vote for their leaders (of course, how much power each leader has would depend on the community.)

Expelling Russia from the UN will not affect Putin's intention
WE CAN SEND UN - peacekeeprs IN UKRAINE, LIKE during Korea ´s war

Expelling Russia from the UN Security Council - CEPA

26 Sept 2022 — Russia, through its aggression against Ukraine, has egregiously violated that pledge and, thus, its presence on the Security Council has lost ...

Lol no we can’t, because Russia and/or China would veto it.

The Korea gambit only worked because Russia was boycotting the vote. They’ve never been dumb enough to make that mistake again.

Furthermore, if wars of aggression are enough to strip a country of its security council seat, then America has already lost our right to our spot.
