The Obama administration on Friday extended the review period on the Keystone XL pipeline, perhaps pushing back a final decision on the disputed project until after the Nov. 4 congressional elections.
The permit process will conclude once factors that have a significant impact on determining the national interest of the proposed project have been evaluated and appropriately reflected in the decision documents," the statement said, not providing a specific deadline. "The Department will give the agencies sufficient time to submit their views."
Environmental advocates oppose the Keystone pipeline, saying it would cause ecological damage along its route from the tar sands of Canada to the Gulf Coast.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., who faces a tough re-election bid in November, said "Today's decision by the Administration amounts to nothing short of an indefinite delay of the Keystone Pipeline
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., one of 11 Senate Democrats who signed a letter to Obama seeking a specific time frame for a Keystone decision, expressed frustration with the latest delay.
"It's absolutely ridiculous that this well-over-five-year-long process is continuing for an undetermined amount of time," she said

just how much more time? 5 years isn't enough time to make a decision?. I guess not - not till we are safely past the midterms

All the White House ever does it push things back. A national joke.
I really wish they'd **** or get off the pot with this thing.

You won't like the decision anyway, so why the rush? Obama will wait until the next President to make the "decision" and yes it is because he won't give the right more ammo for billionaire financed attack ads. No sane person not in the oil business would approve the XL pipeline. Let the Canadians deal with that sludge.
Exactly. Make a decision. Either yes or no. Either way, I don't really care much because I don't personally think this one pipeline will make that much difference. I'm just tired of hearing about it.
What of all the Texas land owners, Ranchers, and Farmers that don't want this thing On THEIR lands. Where are the guys with guns protecting their right to their property and way of life?

Why not? the oil is moving with or without the pipeline, but is moving on trains and trucks instead in the cleaner, more economical and safer pipeline.
The trucks and trains are worse for the environment and so are in opposition to the supposed green agenda of the uniformed, uneducated and unthinking opponents of the pipeline.
As with most things green, mismanaged, misguided and effective only in symbolism.

While the State Department is reviewing the proposal, Obama has said he will make the final decision on the pipeline based on the national interest.

Obama continues to demonstrate how unfit he is to be leader of the free world. Everything is political with him. Everything. If this project is in the interest of the nation then he should approve it at once. If there is just cause to show the nation is better off without it, he should man up, make the case and reject its construction. If the guy doesn't like making decisions, he should never have run for the office. If he lacks the courage to make a tough decision, he should let Biden make it for him. But he should do SOMETHING. It is really embarrassing to see an American president show such cowardice.Administration again delays Keystone pipeline decision

Hi MMC :2wave:Heya AT.....yeah I had this up to. Its being done for purely political reasons and most think after the Mid term then Obama will approve it.

Maybe we can get them to merge the threads.
The tar sand sludge is not moving and won't without that leak prone pipeline. We won't see a drop of it anyway because it is all for export. Why should we take all the risks and cancer because the Canadians don't want it in their country. Let them ship and refine it, we are already exporting 400,000 barrels of gasoline a day.
