I won't editorialize. The article is worth reading. This is a lifelong public servant and warrior whom many of us had the privilege of serving under and learning from. He oversaw NEPTUNE SPEAR (operation that killed UBL). I suppose this is one more actual American hero who will have to go under the bus for President *****-grabbing bone spurs.

I doubt it is the stripping of Brennan's clearance that upsets the Admiral. It is the fact Trump is doing it merely out of vindictiveness and the Admiral respects Brennan. I can think of a couple leaders I had in the past that if they were unfairly attacked I would jump to their defense as well. And for the rest of us? Our security clearances don't expire after leaving the job either. They expire on their expire date, and if that date is a few years after you leave the service you still have your clearance during that time, unless you were kicked out for disciplinary reasons.

When I worked at embassies thee wee a couple times that we had to reach out to the former Defense Attaches after they had retired to get their input on some events. If we had had to wait the weeks it would take for them to re-obtain even interim security clearances we would not have been able to do it.

Again, it isn't a huge deal but the pettiness of it is what likely gets under the skin of a professional like the Admiral.

Wrong, that is not it it works for the rest of us. When you receive a high clearance you retain it until it expires on its own. The Only reason trump is revoking theirs is because he is a applied brat that wants to doing anything he can to strike back at those who call him what he is which is unfit to sit in the Oval Office.
