Iif releasing these photos now means more American soldiers and civilians coming home in body bags, then count me out.
To be honest, I find the best commentators on this subject to be our military personnel, who fully understand the longterm ramifications of this issue. I trust them to handle it.
Thing is, it's a difficult thing to prove.
My grandmother used to say the exact same thing back in the 60's.
Funny.
:2wave:
Hell in a handbasket. It's a peculiar inclination of those over 50 to long for better days in their past and view the past through rose-colored glasses.
In no way do I long for the days of firehosing black people, forced segregation, lack of rights for women, and the like. It's a myth that the olden days were better days.
TODAY is the best day, because there is still an opportunity for change.
It is a sort of damned if you, damned if you don't situation though. Odds are high enough that the countries whos people are in these pictures already know, and are pissed off about that as it is, the refusal to release these photos will probably make it just as bad as if they released the photos.
Or the current government can go by way of convincing it's public to believe that the rapes were essential in order to get pertinent information that saved American lives.
Bush tortures, Obama and Pelosi cover it up. What's a citizen to do?
Obama is saying soldiers lives and coalition will be put in danger. The last time the photos was released without warning of it's content, it didn't exactly kill hundreds soldiers or did anything in particular did it?
The problem here is that there are no longer standards that have to be met to get into the military. People now get in with felony records, drug use, and mental problems. This should not be. We need to go back to setting entrance standards for the military that are stricter. Meanwhile, the soldier who raped that kid should be court marshaled and sent before a firing squad.
Seriously? Why hire such people to begin with? Does US have a shortage of volunteers or something?
Nah, too nice.
I say we drop the rapists in Iraq and allow the kid to hunt him. If he reaches the border, he is safe. If he's caught ... well, he won't be sleeping easy.
I watch way too many movies. lmao
I gotta say if you just go to google.com and click on the image tab and type in "Iraqi prisoner abuse" you see some pretty nasty crap. Guys posing over a slashed prisoners throat with a big thumbs up. Guys covered in **** as punishment.
Then if you dig through enough links instead of the picture section eventually you come across a girl screaming as men in uniforms hold her down and shove something in her mouth.... Guys with objects being shoved in their butts... How the **** could our country be doing this? I think the fact that Obama wants to hide the pictures is going to anger and rouse more "terrorists" than the pictures themselves if they ever sneak out mainstream.
Abu Ghraib abuse photos 'show rape' - Telegraph
Well .... no wonder why Obama wants to stop the photos coming out ... But you still gotta release them at some point. Rather sooner than later.
So are these photos showing people who have not been convicted for what happened at Abu Ghraib? Or are these photos of activities already punished?
this was proven to be faked. As were many of those things you are refering too.
Oh my bad. I didn't realise that these where fake... Images are censored but still a bit graphic.

The two at this link are real. They are not new, though, but show crimes of a sexual nature. Please, don't click if don't have the stomach for it.
at-Largely: Photos Obama won't release include images of rape...(warning, graphic)
