It is sometimes claimed by anti-abortion arguments that the uterus is solely a reproductive organ and therefore it is completely "natural" that women who become pregnant should have to stay pregnant because sex organs do not serve any function for the women except to reproduce. This article provides evidence that the uterus has some role in healthy cognition for the woman, quite apart from reproduction.

Basic information on ovaries also shows that they have a role in estrogen production, which itself has roles in blood flow and circulation. So pro-choice people should probably not call sex organs "reproductive organs," because it is a misleading misnomer.

I don't know how much money was spent on studies to discover these facts, but I know all they had to do was survey any number of husbands who has lived through their wive's menopause.

And pro abortion people ought to develop a conscious. There are 3 reasons that might be legitimate, rape, incest and legitimate threat to the life of the mother. Any other is BS.
Estrogen is a group of steroid hormones primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of female sexual characteristics and the reproductive system.

Estrogen is also crucial for bones, skin health, cardiovascular and neurological functioning.

In both males and females.

Ah yes, women are hormonal; get the vapors about minor annoyances like pregnancy and menopause. Men are the stable, rational, steady and calm element in relationships; no hormone driven problems like silly little women; just ignore those statistics on domestic violence.

Ad hom noted.

says who? A woman's reason for abortion is hers alone and no one's business or concern. Why the exception rape or incest make? Is the fetus different somehow?

Yes, your point being? It also regulates menstruation, cognitive function & mood, musculoskeletal maintenance, and cardiovascular health.

First we're going to set aside that claim that because the uterus is solely a reproductive organ, that it somehow means that women have to remain pregnant. Basic conflation fallacy. With that said, the results of this study seem to say that a woman should be keeping her uterus if at all possible, because it has roles other than reproduction. However, I'm not sure that is actually supported by the study. And the main reason is that the group with both uterus and ovaries removed did better than uterus alone removed. If the uterus was a factor in memory or cognitive ability then why wasn't the other group with the uterus removed also affected? If the removal of the uterus is going to affect something, then it would be affected whether or not other organs are removed.

Basic information on ovaries also shows that they have a role in estrogen production, which itself has roles in blood flow and circulation. So pro-choice people should probably not call sex organs "reproductive organs," because it is a misleading misnomer.

There are sex organs and there are reproductive organs, and there are organs that are multi-purposed. Until now I would say that the uterus is strictly reproductive, and until the contradiction above is resolved, I will hold to that. As noted, it.being a solely reproductive organ holds no bearing on whether a woman should be allowed an abortion or not. Honestly I think this thread really belongs in a different section, unless we were discussing someone actually trying to use it against abortion.

Abortion is murder except when I say so.

I have a conscience, thanks, and it's the reason I've been pro-choice all my life and have consistently voted for the political party that is committed to saving the social safety net developed by the US government.

Pregnancy can threaten a woman with temporary or permanent physical disability interfering with her capacity for independent survival and liberty. That isn't a threat to her physical life, but it certainly violates her right to liberty. Both a woman and her husband or life partner may choose to have protected sex for the purpose of intimacy rather than reproduction, and I personally think that not wanting a pregnancy to result is their business, not yours.
I don't think anti-abortion people are moral or have mature consciences, so you can't insult me. I think that, wherever there are state anti-abortion laws, if a woman is denied abortion and then dies or is disabled in childbirth due to medically unforeseeable complications, the makers of those laws should be put in prison and fined until their families are bankrupt.

Have a nice day.

I admit to wondering if I should put it here or in a Sex and Sexuality thread.

Honestly I think one more dealing with science or medical, over sex and sexuality, especially since the article is making a claim on how the removal affects cognitive functions.

But I am still finding that glaring inconsistency of how the removal of both uterus and ovaries didn't have the same effect as removal of the uterus alone, to be a problem. Is the removal of the uterus causing something to happen to the ovaries? That's the only possible explanation I can see, at least without any further data.

..... because sex organs do not serve any function for the women except to reproduce.
You have reproductive organs ---> you're biologically fated to birth any unwanted fetuses. 🙄
Doesn't follow....a nonstarter.

On what grounds should we "develop a conscious"? ....given that you're willing to kill equivalent fetuses via your legitimate exceptions?

Why? Who says abortion is wrong? Please explain.

Certainly Dobbs didnt. The Dobbs decision enables a state to allow women/their Drs to kill their unborn with no due process. And almost every state still does, to some # of weeks. Some women do have to drive further if they cant take the pills early enough. Not a single state criminalizes having an abortion.
