A report card on the Biden administration

I'd give it an D- as there were a few moments when Joe Biden was lucid, and made sense.

NBC reports, "A federal appeals court has upheld writer E. Jean Carroll's $5 million civil judgment against President-elect Donald Trump.

"A jury awarded Carroll the sum last year after it found Trump liable for sexual abusing her in the 1990s and then defaming her after she went public with her allegations.

"Trump has denied the allegations and appealed the verdict, charging it was "grossly excessive" and saying it should be tossed out because of what he claimed were unfair rulings by the judge who presided over the nine-day trial.

That is typical Trump. The fact that he was found guilty is not his fault. It is the judge's fault.

I noticed some Republicans found time to respond. Once again, they prove my point. They didn't engage a single issue in this thread. They thrive on personal insults and changing the subject.

The people who will run this country during the Trump Presidency will be unknown. A secret cabal of the richest people in the country led by Elon Musk will be in charge. We will not know their names.
The media has been fixated upon Trump's fantasy of acquiring the Panama canal, Canada, and Greenland once he became President. Now Trump has provided the media with another controversy -- H-1B visas. I'll bet most Republicans have no idea what they are.

Here, let me help as Trump sided with President Musk again.

CNN reports, "Donald Trump’s siding with Elon Musk over visas for high-tech workers is the most significant example yet of the president-elect favoring powerful elements in his new MAGA coalition over his base’s anti-immigrant DNA that he twice tapped in his rise to power.

"The boiling holiday feud over H-1B visas exposed new fissures across Trump’s broadened support base and reflected the contradictions between his populist ideology and the self-interests of many of the key players in his refashioned inner circle.

"After several days of silence over the controversy, the president-elect stepped in, making clear he supported Musk’s argument for recruitment flexibility for the tech industry."

Of course he did, and he is pleased. Of course, too, the media cooperated. No more talk about Trump's inexperienced sycophants for his cabinet and other vital positions.

Trump didn't pick Musk. Because of his qualifications, which include sociopathic tendencies along with a total lack of awareness, Musk picked Trump

What? He is still the president, is he not? This Did happen under his watch, did it not? Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?

Did your mom drop you on your head when you were an infant?

I see that Republicans are making fools of themselves.

That is all they can do. It is obvious they don't have the knowledge to do anything else.

They manage prove everything I say about them.

Republican voters wanted a President who supports Russia.

Trump made his intentions clear before Election Day.

NBC reports, "After a year of significant gains for Russia, looming large is the presidency of Donald Trump, who has pledged to end the war in “a single day” — even if he has indicated that he is in part sympathetic to Moscow’s arguments and has remained skeptical of promising open-ended military aid to Kyiv.

"Some experts believe that, for this reason, it’s likely that Ukraine, and Europe, will need to prepare for a prolonged war.

"As Ukraine’s most important military backer, the U.S. has given Kyiv nearly $61.4 billion in military assistance. On Monday, the White House pledged another $2.5 billion — likely the last steps taken by the Biden administration in that direction.

"On the other hand, Trump has made clear that he does not wholeheartedly support Kyiv’s war against Vladimir Putin’s invading forces."

Roberts thinks Americans should accept the Supreme Court's controversial, extremely conservative rulings. He takes full advantage of his appointed for life term. He is extremely naive.

NBC reports, "Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday blasted what he called "illegitimate activity" aimed at undermining the independence of the judiciary.

"While facing criticism of contentious court rulings is part of the job for judges, some recent actions have crossed the line, Roberts said in his annual end-of-year report.

"Attempts to intimidate judges for their rulings in cases are inappropriate and should be vigorously opposed," he added.

"He outlined four areas of concern: violence, intimidation, disinformation and threats to defy court judgments.

"All four "undermine our Republic, and are wholly unacceptable," Roberts wrote.

"He did not specify any concrete examples of conduct that concern him, but the Supreme Court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, has faced a barrage of scrutiny since the 2022 ruling to overturn decades of abortion rights in the landmark Roe v. Wade case."

The ruling, firmly based upon a religious view, gave control of pregnant women's health over to the government in Republican-led states.

NBC continued, "There has also been renewed focus on the court from Democrats in Congress, sparked in part by media reports of alleged ethics lapses from some of the justices, with a focus on conservative Justice Clarence Thomas.

"Earlier this year, the court ensured that President-elect Donald Trump, a convicted felon, would not face a trial on election interference charges before the November election and ruled for the first time that presidents have broad criminal immunity for actions taken while in office."

In other words, the Roberts court gave the President virtual immunity from our laws. Trump attempted to overthrow our elected government and he stole classified documents essential to our national security. According to Roberts, Trump is immune from prosecution, and we should peacefully accept that.

I expect Republicans will continue their silence on the issues!

In over 1600 posts, the OP has not rendered a grade nor attempted to develop one.

Indeed, many if not most of the posts have been about Trump.

Perhaps that is fitting. The less said about Biden the better.

I am hopeful that the malady known as TDS is waning. However, as of yet, not so much on this forum.

There are two fundamental differences.
  • The first is Trump's experience. He now knows how to handle a large array of issues that were new during his first term.
  • The second is the opposition, basically a coalition of democrats and media that has been the power behind the scenes since 2008. Over the last four years, Trump has systematically defeated all of their methods and discredited their influencers. The result is a Democratic party in disarray and media groups trying to stave off bankruptcy.
All is not sunshine and roses. It's not in Trump's nature to do things quietly.

Can Republicans govern?

You decide.

Speaker Mike Johnson is largely credited with preventing a government shutdown. As a consequence, several Republicans want to fire him.

If they fire him -- a likely possibility -- and don't replace him in time -- also a likely possibility -- the House will not be allowed finalize Donalf Trump's Presidency.

Put a different way, Republicans eat their own. They face a dilemma of their own making.

Can Republicans govern?

CNN reports, "House Speaker Mike Johnson’s allies are leaning into a key argument in a bid to avoid a chaotic floor fight over the gavel on Friday: A vote against Johnson could delay the finalization of Donald Trump’s White House win.

"A day before the speaker’s election, Johnson, who has been endorsed by Trump to keep the top leadership post, is still racing to win over multiple GOP holdouts, a scenario that some Republicans privately fear could lead to another days-long protracted floor fight.

"But this time, there’s a huge shadow over the race: Congress has never before tried to certify a presidential election without a House speaker in place. Even senior Republicans say it’s unclear what would happen if there is no speaker on January 6 — when Congress is scheduled to certify Trump’s win — and they’re not eager not to find out.
"Johnson faces a difficult path: A historically narrow majority leaves him little room for error. If every House lawmaker shows up and votes, he cannot afford to lose more than one member of his conference to win the gavel."

Incredible, but true, this man who shares his lies and fantasies with the American people, will soon become our President, God willing and House Republicans can get their act together,

Here is another stunning example. He thinks Fox News is a reliable news source.

The attack in New Orleans by a demented terrorist has absolutely nothing to do with our southern border. But our -soon-to-be President thinks so.

God spare us.

CNN reports, "An erroneous early Fox News report about the New Orleans terror attack is warping the political dialogue in the aftermath of the deadly rampage.

"The false report from Fox, which was attributed to anonymous sources, confused the public – and evidently President-elect Donald Trump too. The misinformation is still circulating more than 24 hours later – serving as a cautionary tale about the news ecosystem as the new year begins.

"During the 10 a.m. hour on Wednesday, Fox reported that the New Orleans suspect’s truck crossed the US border in Eagle Pass, Texas “two days ago.” Some of the right-wing network’s coverage explicitly said “the suspect” drove across the border, leaving viewers with the impression that a foreigner might be responsible for the deadly carnage.

"In fact, the New Orleans attack suspect was a US citizen and Army veteran.

"Eight minutes after the first Fox segment that mentioned the border, Trump issued a statement about “criminals coming in” from other countries. While Trump didn’t mention Fox directly, he is known to be an avid consumer of the cable network and has tapped several of its personalities for his incoming cabinet.

"Some of Trump’s family members and political allies also immediately connected the attack to illegal immigration and cited Fox.

"Ironically, Trump’s original statement used the New Orleans attack to say that he was right and the “Fake News Media” was wrong about the threat posed by illegal immigration. If he had waited a couple hours to react, he would have learned that the suspect was a US citizen."

We will have a President who talks too much, brags too much, ad talks way too early.

Republicans will remain silent on the issues. Ir is self-evident that Republicans have a difficult time with reality.

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s allies are leaning into a key argument in a bid to avoid a chaotic floor fight over the gavel on Friday: A vote against Johnson could delay the finalization of Donald Trump’s White House win.
ABC reports, "In some high-stakes political drama, the House of Representatives on Friday voted to reelect House Speaker Mike Johnson to lead the 119th Congress by a razor-thin margin.

"Johnson, a Louisiana Republican who ascended to the leadership post in 2023 after the historic ouster of Kevin McCarthy, had secured President-elect Donald Trump's support as he sought a second term."

Our soon-to-be President, a convicted felon, will face sentencing in the porn star buy-off trial.

Reuters reports, "President-elect Donald Trump will be sentenced on Jan. 10 in the criminal case in which he was convicted on charges involving hush money paid to a porn star, but is unlikely to face jail time or other penalties, a judge said on Friday.

"Justice Juan Merchan's ruling means Trump will be required to appear at a court hearing just 10 days before his Jan. 20 inauguration - an unprecedented scenario in U.S. history. Before Trump, no U.S. president - former or sitting - had been charged with or convicted of a crime."

Trump faced two criminal trials, one for attempting to overthrow our elected government, the other theft of classified documents essential to our national security. They were dismissed, because of rulings by federal judges, six of them on the Supreme Court.
