We have all seen the totally trashy pictures from Baltimore. They are disgusting.

So the question---------------how many able bodied people are taking welfare payments in Baltimore?

The sugestion----------------put them to work 2 days a week picking up all that trash.

Great idea. I think everyone who receives public assistance must be required to perform some kind of public service.

No one wants to touch that mess for fear of being infected or bitten.

In 2019 America, no one can be forced to do public service in order to receive public assistance.

If anyone were ordered to do so, s/he would immediately contact an activist group, which would then sue for compensation based on emotional distress and discrimination.

The brutal reality is that nothing will change in that city until the residents decide that they themselves want to change things.

Total BS!!!! Getting something like welfare for nothing is nothing more than legalized theft.

How about requiring the landowners to clean up their property or be fined?

Good point.
Now lets look at personal responsibility. I can't, of course, speak for anyone else, but I know a lot of people who are living in poverty, have been there myself. What keeps anyone from putting their garbage in an appropriate container, rare exceptions noted?

Sure there are. There are companies that specialize in cleaning up crime scenes where blood is everywhere, and bodies have been decomposing for days, or longer. Give those companies a contract to clean up those areas, and the companies will prosper , and the areas will be cleaner. A little imagine and common sense can go a long way.

You don’t see to be doing much constructive at the moment. Why not go out and contribute a bit of work to your community?

How about requiring the landowners to clean up their property or be fined?

How about requiring the renters to not trash the place? I agree the owner of the property should be required to keep it clean. Renters need to do their part also. Landlords should not be maids.

I have one suggestion for you.

Why don't you put your efforts into trying to solve the problems that Trump is creating for all of us instead of trying to fix one problem in one city.

Here are the problems that bigger and more urgent to fix:

1) failure to stop illegal immigration
2) failure to get an infrastructure program going
3) failure to institute a Health Care program
4) failure to reduce the Federal Debt
5) failure to unite the country
6) failure to reduce spending
7) failure to address natural disasters such as the one in Puerto Rico
8) failure to stop the revolving door in his cabinet and in the White House
9) failure to get competent people to help run the country
10) failure to attack (not stoke) racism
11) failure to solve the Trade War he himself created.

Total BS!!!! Getting something like welfare for nothing is nothing more than legalized theft.

I agree.

But nothing can be done about it.

This is 2019 America.

If I am not mistaken, the work requirement rules were loosened by the previous administration.

Why is anyone shocked at the decayed neighborhoods in Baltimore? Let's be realistic, urban decay isn't only happening in Baltimore, Maryland. There are cities all over this country (and others) with neighborhoods that have fallen into decrepitude with urban blight. This has nothing at all to do with 'welfare' and people 'taking advantage'. No, it goes much deeper than that.

Urban blight doesn't only happen in the U.S., it happens all over the world. But, there's no other country in the world as wealthy as the U.S. So, where did we fail? What could our federal and state governments have done to prevent this stain on our conscience? It's all about money of course, and who gets it. Truthfully, nobody in government cares enough about the impoverished in this country to actually do something about it. The fat cats in local, state and federal government, those that control the purse strings, are more inclined to put money into efforts that will benefit them financially and overlook those that are in dire need.

The people that don't want any taxpayer money to help people who are starving, don't want taxpayer money to go to infrastructure, don't want money to go to education, job retraining, think poor people are just lazy, think they don't deserve livable wages, don't want to support substidized housing, don't want to support welfare and food stamps, suddenly concerned about poor people.

Poorest, biggest ****hole places in this country are rural, red state areas. Clean up your own meth and heroin addict infested ****holes.

And don't pretend you give a **** about poor people, right wingers don't give a **** about anybody but themselves

We know where we failed, the government doesn't work for the people. They work for the rich, and do nothing but allow the rich to take all the wealth at the expernse of crumbling US cities, increased poverty, struggling workforce, etc.

Gave away billions to people who have all the wealth

OMG 😮. First of all , there are a lot of able bodied on government assistance, my son is one of them.
Second, these democrat politicians know if they make able bodied people work for their welfare, they will get voted out quickly.
There is an entrenched democrat machine here that will not give up their power. You are correct. It worked in Maine.

That’s between the renters and the landlord. Are you suggesting the government should involve themselves in that business arrangement?

Good suggestion but the left won’t go for it.

The problem is much deeper than just a trashy neighborhood. It all boils down to rampant liberalism destroying the family structure. Families don’t have fathers, they have a gov’t welfare check instead.

No school choice.

No skills training.

Corrupt local gov’t.

Cops have their hands tied.

And so on…

Nope. Except for Govt. housing projects.

Makes me wonder what type of people who trash where they live. Building owners should be required to maintain the buildings. People living there should pick up after themselves.

Now if the landlord started to evict people who have trashed the apartment how long do you think it would take for some to play the race card and say you can't do that.

sure

as soon as they remove the section 8 housing restrictions

home owners would love to increase the values of their properties and collect MORE rents

but right now, these properties are rent controlled and probably losing propositions

let the tenants clean up their own messes

now once the rent controls are removed, and the owners can charge higher rents...

they wont mind paying to have the places cleaned up

Where did that 1.8 BILLION DOLLARS go the Baltimore got?? Take all able bodied off welfare and put them to work cleaning up the city.

What specific section 8 housing restrictions would you have them remove? Section 8 is voluntary for the owner.

Therefore we should just leave it set where it is?

Someone has to clean it up, and why not the people that created in the first place???

Be specific.

Those are professionals not, your average hobo. Regardless, the homeless will make the mess continual.

These people are stepping up.
