Is a grocery store the same as a government? If not, it's a stupid question.
Well, if you would agree that it's a good idea, the government would have to be part of it. If you think it's a stupid question, then feel free to not return to the thread.
There is nothing wrong with pointing out the huge, gaping, massive, insane problems with poll questions. Your little trap poll relies on two things that are different being the same. This is Glenn Beck style piss poor logic.
There is no "trap". If you don't think it's a good idea, say so. If you do, say so. What's the trap?
Of course it is, someone will say no, and then you or someone else will say then why are you for a progressive tax!!!! It's ridiculous.
We all know about the progressive income tax - the more you make, the more you pay. Would you support that idea at the grocery store as well? If you make over a certain amount, you have to pay an inflated price for your gallon of milk. If you make under a certain amount, you get the gallon of milk for free or for very little money.
Would this work in our society? Would you approve of it?
Um....no. Those are two different things.
Who wants to take their ledger grocery shopping with them? Not me.

Wait what? You specifically compare them, and then say they are not the same thing. If they are not the same thing, you can logically expect them to be handled differently. This is not rocket surgery.
How else do you make a budget with groceries?
I take a piece of paper and a pen every single time I go grocery shopping.
Feel lost without it.
That is pretty much how the system works right now. If you make a lot of money, then you get to buy the expensive organic milk that is antibiotic free. If you make moderate money then you get regular priced milk. If you make no money, then you get milk from a food bank for free.
:sigh:
They aren't the same thing, obviously. Income taxes are paid to benefit the entire population and groceries are just for you and your family. However, it's a similar concept as the progressive income tax. I'm merely asking if you would agree to that "progressive" concept being expanded to paying for groceries. Should people who make more pay more?
Again, if you really aren't interested in the question, then let those of us who are discuss it.
Dammit, another way we are alike. I allow myself two impulse buys at the grocery store, everything else has to be on the list. Admittedly, sometimes those impulse buys are large, but it's the thought that counts, or so I tell myself.
My wife makes a general list, I apply a fixed dollar amount to the total budget and round up all prices to make sure I don't blow it.
Chocolate pudding is a cheap impulse buy, like $1-2 at Ingles.

I do most of my shopping at Wal-Mart(sue me, it is cheaper), so my impulse buys can be 100 or more.
