How is fighting in Iraq, protecting the American constitution and way of life?
Lets face it democracy in Iraq is not going to work. Because this nation has never known democracy. This region of the world has never known pluralism, freedom of speech, freedom of association, so how can you impose such notions on people that don't understand the concept of democracy.
The whole idea of changing the middle east via a democractic Iraq, is absolutely IDEALISTIC, and absolutely out of touch with reality.
Sadam is an SOB, but was his rule any worse than any of the other despot rulers in the region, that the U.S and Australia turns a blind eye to, because we need their oil?
We have essentially replaced a secular dictator, for the Shia theologians. And these bastards that are trying to set up an Iran like theocracy, can only do so because so many soldiers payed the ultimate price.
Iraq doesn't deserve democracy. Because the society, had not yet developed that cultural level of thinking.
The best thing we could have ever done in Iraq, would have been to stop the sanctions and not invade. By invading Iraq, America, Britain and Australia, have just fallen into Al-Queda's hands. Because wasn't Bin Laden talking about American Imperialism, long before Iraq?
America, and my nation must realise that democracy cannot be installed in countries that do not want democracy as we in the West understand the notion of. Societies that have only known one form of dictator after another, are not ready for democracy yet.... Their time will come, but it can't be delivered via a gun.
