Drug tunnel found under US-Mexico border

SAN DIEGO -- U.S. authorities have discovered a drug tunnel connecting warehouses on either side of California's border with Mexico.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lauren Mack says Wednesday that the tunnel ran 600 yards under the border. It had lighting, ventilation and a rail system for sending carts of drugs into the United States.

A rail system?

At least one enterprise is profitable, and with no government subsidies, either: drug running.

What do you expect? Drugs are highly profitable.

The only people who benefit financially from the war on drugs are the thugs and law enforcement who need funding to fight it. I read something today that said about 28,000 people have died in the past YEAR due to drug related violence around the Mexican border. Tell me, how many people has cannabis killed in the last year??

You forgot one part of the article.

AP SAN DIEGO -- The California Highway Patrol found 47 men on the American side of the tunnel. But since they weren't pushing carts of drugs at the time, they were immediately released. On the American side. Jose Hernandez was quoted as saying, (translated from Spanish) "Damn good thing they released us. We won't stand for no profiling."

Probably none.

Yes, if you follow the money trail, it becomes abundantly clear why we can't have a more rational approach to discouraging drug dependancy.

Oh, no, it would be wrong to profile illegal aliens, wouldn't it? What a joke our immigration policy has become!
