Some of it they wanted to, like making a lot of political appointee positions regular civil service jobs, but it's my understanding that McCrory made a deal with them to not do so, and he would agree to sign some bills the legislature wanted to pass that he didn't like.

Wow this is some pretty messed up stuff. Its clear that the Republicans in North Carolina are trying to using this special session to limit the incoming Democratic governor. Now I agree with calling a special session for that hurricane relief, but that should be the only reason they are convening a special session.
Just pointing out here that no one is arguing or suggesting what the North Carolina Republican Party is doing in the state legislature is against the law.
People calling it a "coup" are. And "power grab," to a lesser extent.
If you have a problem with semantics then so be it
"Semantics." That's a card played a little too frequently, and seldom appropriately.
?
I agree that "coup" was rhetorical. That's peripheral to the material facts of the issue at hand.

Intent is invariably interpretive and wholly subjective. The fact that the current governor and legislature have the power to act is not. That's my point. I haven't stated my opinion on whether they should or should not (the intent), just that they can act within the state constitution, and that referring to a legal and constitutional action as a coup or power grab is pure hyperbolic political bull****, which it is.
Yes, it is legal – yet it is clear they are reducing the elected Dem Governors powers. So, the only butt hurt here are the Republicans in the NC Legislature
What? I don't understand your contention.
It sounds like they're trying to dramatically cut the incoming governor's power- do you contest this?
The mods should stop allowing that vulgar expression that is associated with sodomy, which recently was a crime.
With that out of the way, I applaud the legislature's effort to prevent a leftist incoming governor from wrecking the state's economy.
The incoming governor has no power to undercut. When the incoming governor is no longer incoming, then he gets to make the decisions. That's how the system works.
You are making a pedantic distinction.
They are cutting the power of the governor's office just before another governor comes in. Do you have the honesty to admit this?

Well how is Kansas doing under the far right tax cuts? Or even Wisconsin, the tax cuts for the wealthy did not increase revenues as was predicted in both States. And what do they do, but double down.
Louisiana now has a Dem who is cleaning up the fiscal mess from the former Republican Governor.
