A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19
According to new data, the U.S. currently ranks first in total COVID-19 cases, new cases per day and deaths. Genevieve Briand, assistant program director of the Applied Economics master’s degree program at Hopkins, critically analyzed the effect of COVID-19 on U.S. deaths using data from the...web.archive.org
“The reason we have a higher number of reported COVID-19 deaths among older individuals than younger individuals is simply because every day in the U.S. older individuals die in higher numbers than younger individuals,” Briand said.
“Briand also noted that 50,000 to 70,000 deaths are seen both before and after COVID-19, indicating that this number of deaths was normal long before COVID-19 emerged. Therefore, according to Briand, not only has COVID-19 had no effect on the percentage of deaths of older people, but it has also not increased the total number of deaths. “

Hi!
There's a bit of truth in the bold face statement above. Old people do have a higher rate of death than young people. That's almost tautological, though. All older people die. Only a small percent of young people will die [Ed.: Or else there would be no old people, right? Right?]
That said, it has bearing on the Covid-19 viral deaths only in that older people already have a number of medical problems that predispose them to death, given enough of a medical challenge.
As far as the second assertion goes, it is unsupported by the evidence and should be relegated to the trash bin.
Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the prophylactic Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.
Reminder. I try to respond to all who quote my posts. If you do not get a response from me, it may be that you've made it onto my 'Ignore' list.
It was noted even by the NYT during the lockdowns in Spring how heart attacks seem to have disappeared, this data shows that 'somehow', covid seems to be curing heart disease......... by overcounting covid deaths by including those who died WITH covid together wit those who have died FROM covid (something we DON'T do with any other similar disease like the flu, etc.)A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19

Not only is it not statistically different than previous years but we also don't see a widening increase in those deaths compared to others through THIS year as covid has gone through the country. The percentage of deaths of old people should be greater than usual during the pandemic, since they are much more likely to die from COVID 19. However, that analysis says the percentage of old people dying during the pandemic is not much different than recent previous years. If true, that would mean there has not been a pandemic after all. It would be an artifact based on over-diagnosis of COVID 19.
So your position is that every spring in NYC and countless other places around the world, hospitals get completely overwhelmed with people and governments have to frantically beg for ventilators and bring in refrigerated trucks to deal with all the dead bodies? The percentage of deaths of old people should be greater than usual during the pandemic, since they are much more likely to die from COVID 19. However, that analysis says the percentage of old people dying during the pandemic is not much different than recent previous years. If true, that would mean there has not been a pandemic after all. Briand was quoted in the article as saying, “All of this points to no evidence that COVID-19 created any excess deaths. Total death numbers are not above normal death numbers.” This claim is incorrect and does not take into account the spike in raw death count from all causes compared to previous years. According to the CDC, there have been almost 300,000 excess deaths due to COVID-19. Additionally, Briand presented data of total U.S. deaths in comparison to COVID-19-related deaths as a proportion percentage, which trivializes the repercussions of the pandemic. This evidence does not disprove the severity of COVID-19; an increase in excess deaths is not represented in these proportionalities because they are offered as percentages, not raw numbers.
Briand also claimed in her analysis that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may be incorrectly categorized as COVID-19-related deaths. However, COVID-19 disproportionately affects those with preexisting conditions, so those with those underlying conditions are statistically more likely to be severely affected and die from the virus.
Because of these inaccuracies and our failure to provide additional information about the effects of COVID-19, The News-Letter decided to retract this article. It is our duty as a publication to combat the spread of misinformation and to enhance our fact-checking process. We apologize to our readers.
How precisely is it a conspiracy, and where is your evidence linking it to 'the far right'?So this is the new conspiracy theory by the far right...

Ah yes, NYC's government 'frantically begged' for ventilators, complained they weren't given enough when they were given some, and then never even touched them or went beyond their own original ventilator stock. So your position is that every spring in NYC and countless other places around the world, hospitals get completely overwhelmed with people and governments have to frantically beg for ventilators and bring in refrigerated trucks to deal with all the dead bodies?
I dare you to tell a nurse in NYC that they never "touched" ventilators in March-April. I suspect the response would bring you out of your delusion pretty quickly.Ah yes, NYC's government 'frantically begged' for ventilators, complained they weren't given enough when they were given some, and then never even touched them or went beyond their own original ventilator stock.
