In the overwhelmingly right wing state of Georgia, where minding the business of others is a major pastime of the deeply conservative, actions by a Kroger's grocery store in Athens Georgia will certainly cause right-wingers nationwide a great deal of distress.

This store decided to do the right thing and provide unisex bathrooms for its customers. Posting the following sign:
"We have a unisex bathroom because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations," the sign reads. "And since we have a lot of friends coming to see us, we want to provide a place for our friends who are:*
• Dads with daughters*
• Moms with sons*
• Parents with disabled children*
• Those in the LGBTQ community*
• Adults with aging parents who may be mentally or physically disabled"

Reactions to Kroger's decision have impressively positive. It seems Athens' conservatives have yet to discover there is a hated liberal business in the midst of their bigoted red state.

The real bigotry here is yours, on display against those that disagree with you. You demonize, falsely accuse and castigate. Those that are not like you.

You know how to make this stuff mainstream, without negative reaction?
Do it without the additional signage.

That would make it a nonissue, just the male/female sign on one door would suffice.

Yeah, 'cause the freedom TO discriminate is so much more important to the American way of life than freedom FROM discrimination! You go girl!

I would note a couple of points. First, Athens is home to the University of Georgia and with a large student population comes a much more liberal population. The district, ironically enough, was led for many years by Republican conspiratorial nutjob, Paul Broun, but that is because the district is drawn in such a way as to include the ultra conservative region of Augusta. Thanks Gerry Mandering.

Also, I would note that while Georgia is very much known for its Red leanings, it is one of the few Southern States to show a propensity to be competitive for Democrats (with Bill Clinton winning the State in 1992).

When a restroom consists of a room with one toilet, one wash basin, and a lock on the door, what difference could it possibly make what the sign on the door says?

It's too bad we can't have one restroom for civilized people, and another for those who like to write on the walls, scratch up the mirrors, whiz on the floor, and leave a big, gross, smelly turd in an unflushed toilet. The doors could be labeled "people" and "yahoos."

Yeah, 'cause the freedom TO discriminate is so much more important to the American way of life than freedom FROM discrimination! You go girl!

And yet, you are discriminating right now. You have no problem with it. You believe (wrongly) that the Religious Right is evil, so it's okay for you to attack and demonize and castigate them.

You know, you claim your views are because these people ignorantly hate/discriminate against LGBT it's okay for you to hate/discriminate.

You go Glen... you go.

Is any one suggesting the religious right should be treated differently under the law?

Is that part of this discussion or you just felt going that route would enhance the emotional muck?

There is nothing bigoted about standing up for your religious faith and denouncing the perversions and sickness, of the LGBTQ community!

And you and others here, and across this great nation, have no problem discriminating against Christians at every turn.

You were talking about discrimination so is any talking about codifying discrimination against the religious right?

What discrimination have Christians suffered under?

And Bill Clinton fooled a LOT of people, and still does today. He, Hillary and obie, all have that in common.

I have another label for the yahoos, but that will work for now.

Beyond the scope of this discussion.

Riiiiiight. I guess you never watch the Christmas commercials starting in October....

Perfect example of discrimination against Christianity, turning a religious holiday into a gigantic sell a thon. Oh, well, the Christians stole the holiday from the Pagans, so now the servers of Mammon have stolen it from them. Fair is fair.

You have a choice - you can either have freedom FROM discrimination...or you can be free TO discriminate. You can't have both freedoms. So you have to ask yourself, which freedom is more precious, which freedom do you want YOUR children to have?

This has nothing to do with the discrimination and persecutions of Christians worldwide, both physical and mental. It goes on daily in this country and abroad.

Nor does your sigline depict the truth about the NRA. Tell me GC, do you have any idea, how many other good gun groups are out there, fighting for personal firearms freedoms?

liberals always seem to myopically focus on the NRA....

Respect for their fellow man, even when they realize that person or persons is a sick ****.

Oh, so THAT'S what happened! All the pagans secretly got together and stole Christmas by making it an annual months-long "sell-a-thon"! And all the "Christians" who celebrate that holiday, well, they're all victims, I guess!

FYI, I am a strong Christian, and we in the Church of which I am a member do not celebrate Christmas, Halloween, or Easter. And I can tell you that those of us who do not celebrate Christmas had our way, that holiday - not being Biblical - would not exist...and the LAST thing we would want is to have our kids watch Christmas commercials for three months out of every year!

Most Christians do celebrate the Christ Mass, even Protestants who don't celebrate mass. Since the last thing you would want is to have kids watching Christmas commercials for three months, you must see my point that the holiday has been hijacked by commercial interests, i.e., followers of Mammon. Those commercials aren't urging people to be more Christian or go to church. No, they're urging people to go to the real places of worship, the shopping malls.

Really? Almost any non-Muslim nation you go to (with the exceptions of North Korea, China (though only to a lesser extent) and possibly Myanmar), and how much actual persecution of mainstream "Christians" is there? Hardly any.

And my signature line is quite accurate. Why? Because as long as violent felons, psychopaths, and terrorists can buy guns without background checks, the more people they kill...and the more people buy firearms to "protect themselves"...and the more money the gun manufacturers make. If you think that their goal is anything BUT doing what's necessary to make more money, then you're being incredibly naive. It is very much in the gun manufacturers' best interests to ensure that it's easy for the bad guys to purchase guns.

I pay no attention to any commercials and hang up on all phone calls promoting anything....and delete spam w/o hardly looking at it. Of course, I am not a typical consumer either, and I pay with cash most of the time now.

My kids are as old as some on this forum and I no longer worry about what they watch....
