55% of Americans disapprove of Trump's job performance

Close, but not quite. The divide was already there, but now it's mostly focused on Trump. There is a longstanding movement to silence large sectors of the population. Trump has defied the movement, so he has become the lightning rod.
There has always been a divide, same as any other society. Trump has greatly increased that divide, mostly intentionally, by putting party against party and citizen against citizen.

And that part of the population that Trump has given a voice to are the despicable bigots, xenophobes, and hypocrite evangelicals.

President Trump Job Approval | Election Other | RealClearPolitics
Per RCP, 43.5% approval, 54.5% disapproval. That's an 11 point difference.
As I have reported on here a number of times, Trump is in deep, deep trouble. People are obviously upset about the economy and how the Trump Administration responded to the Coronavirus. The current electoral college map has Biden leading in 28 states and over 300 electoral college votes.
I know it's only late May, but he needs to turn this ship. Mocking Biden for his stutter, old age, making mildly embarrassing gaffes, and wearing a mask are apparently not working.
If Trump's numbers deep into the 30s, I don't think he should accept the Republican nomination. I am not trying to be anti-Trump here, but the WH seriously needs a complete change of strategy.

Since you embrace the hate, that makes you one of the despicable bigots that Trump gives a voice.

Just sayin'.

Yes, America is that polarized. More so than anytime since Nixon. And it’s mostly driven by Trump.

It never existed to a great degree for much of modern post war history, but it was there to a moderate & substantive degree. Today, the number of true independents & crossovers has greatly diminished. I've seen numbers as low as 5-6 percent, but have no references handy.

Not only is America that polarized from decades (if not longer) of two party bull****, but Trump being President was only made plausible by how far Democrats and Republicans have ultra-destroyed the political landscape of this nation.

Independents are the last bastion of political fluidity, but they have to vote between two parties only going back and forth based on what is happening at the time and how much they dislike the other guy.

Geez, fellas, that's terrifying. And more than a little depressing. Seems like there's little room in America for reasonable people... I'm so sorry.

Wait until the Biden ads regarding this pandemic hit the airwaves. Trump laying out his best plan for fighting covid 19: Injecting disinfectants. Trump saying anyone who needs a test can get one...when there was a critical shortage of test kits. Trump saying it might all disappear by April. Trump saying it's noting to worry about....

Biden's campaign could show five ads a day for a month, and never need to repeat themselves.

Since you embrace the hate

You're very confused, embracing facts and reality is not embracing Hate. Trump really has you guys bull****ted doesn't he. :lamo

Indeed. They're the dummies it's easiest to frighten with brown skinned boogiemen.

Trump and G.O.P. Candidates Escalate Race and Fear as Election Ploys

Racism as a Determinant of Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Racism was associated with poorer mental health (negative mental health: r = -.23, 95% CI [-.24,-.21], k = 227; positive mental health: r = -.13, 95% CI [-.16,-.10], k = 113), including depression, anxiety, psychological stress and various other outcomes. Racism was also associated with poorer general health (r = -.13 (95% CI [-.18,-.09], k = 30), and poorer physical health

Aren't you glad you're not in that group?

There is plenty of room here for reasonable people, and the majority of us are.

Very unfortunately, for the time being we are stuck with the most unreasonable president in the modern history of our country.

Embracing facts and reality seems to have little to do with your approach. Hating Trump seems to have nearly everything to do with it.

Trump really has you guys flustered, doesn't he. Have a kitty. :kitty:

If they were just stupid that’d be okay. Plenty of stupid, but decent people.

Trumpsters are a different kinda stupid though. Irrational, ill informed, bigoted and very zealous. Not good for America. Not at all.

But you know that already.

I can’t imagine any scenario, short of an armed invasion by a foreign enemy, where I’d ever consider standing alongside those who idolize Trump.

Not to be difficult about this, but tell me the alternative. It cannot be so foreign but to see how polarized and toxic our political system has become under the control of Republicans and Democrats.

Prove me wrong.

Trump will take the senate down with him. Democrats will have the house, senate and presidency.

You say that... but Democrats are lost in their own haze of inter-party divisions and litmus tests.

You would think that a political party would be able to capitalize on all the Trump has done to this nation but we cannot be so sure now.

Well, I guess the alternative would be for Americans to become truly educated on the issues, to where they see the self defeating nature of their division, and reject it. For the foreseeable future, given the current roster of career politicians who have attained their positions of power through deliberately divisive and manipulative methodologies, continue to vote for the lesser of evils, with harm reduction in mind for as many of your fellow citizens as possible, while at the same time filling the bottom rungs with people that reflect your values better, and actually want to work for you, so that when the old guard retires, the folks who will replace them will be more aligned with doing their job, which is to represent the folks who vote for them, ahead of the companies that sponsor them.

As bad as things are, no one has a gun pointed to anyone's head, demanding ignorance or douchebaggery. That's a choice each and every one of you make. You could choose to reject the methodologies employed to keep you in line, constantly fighting each other so that government can do whatever they like while you're not looking. Or you could choose to continue to enable it, with the consequences as your only reward. As ****ed as things have gotten, the mechanisms to fix things still exist, buried deep in the machine that government has become. For now. Maybe instead of throwing your hands up, you should figure out how to use that machine to get what you need, as clearly it's only benefitting a miniscule minority of you.

Welcome to the two party system ...

Keep deluding your self. Hillary did before the 2016 election, and she is still whining about it.

You gotta get away from that pie in the sky thinking.

Too many are too rooted in their ideology to do anything like become educated, or informed, on the issues. The two party system owns this nation and will eventually destroy it.

:) You have to start moving towards that pie, my friend. The mistake most people make is in thinking that changing the world is anything other than a long game. At the end of the day, as history has consistently shown, the progressives always win. Yeah, sometimes things slip backwards, usually with devastating results, but ultimately the world moves forward, usually improving as it goes.

I offer a counter prediction...one day your nation will destroy the two party system, and the people will once again own their country. As much as I hate to admit it, villain characters, like Trump, ultimately speed this process up.

Hope, bud...without it, why bother?
