4th of July. Be safe.

I hope that no one was hurt.

I did some very stupid things with fireworks as a teenager. I'm now for banning private displays of flying fireworks hosted by non-professionals, especially in residential neighborhoods.

The only thing Angelenos ignore more than speed limits and pedestrian crossings is the county-wide ban on fireworks.

We all know that there are parks with free fireworks shows, but there’s some unwritten commandment that residential areas must be subjected to fireworks and cherry bombs. Extra points for firecrackers exploding past midnight.

Yes, they have been blowing them off for a week now in my neighborhood, some sound airborne, some not. The ones that fly are not legal, but that doesn't stop people. I worry about starting fires, we've had some decent rain lately, but doesn't take more than a careless asshole to start a fire.

Also, my dog and others in the area are fearful of the loud noises and strange sights. Even for a before bed potty in my own backyard, I have to walk my dog on a leash and assure him it's okay. Even as a kid, I lit a few firecrackers, but never really got into the whole thing. Professional displays are nice and colorful, but after a few minutes really get boring, IMO.

My hometown gets ridiculous at this time of year. We have one dog who is terrified of the constant barrage. At my age, I'm done with letting everyone fire off anything they want in residential neighborhoods for a month. I apologize for my own teenage stupidity when it comes to fireworks.

One of my dogs is absolutely terrified of them. And a neighbor a few houses down loves to buy the illegal mortar shells to shoot off. I hope they don't this year. Legal fireworks in NM is just stupid. This state catches fire if you take a sweater off too fast.

Shit. That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

My favorite dog rescue organization says that it always has to look for more stray dogs after July 4th.

Those dogs had loving owners, but the fireworks scared the dogs into running away from home.

Hopefully those dogs have microchips.

My dog is also not a fan of fireworks. Most cities, where fireworks are illegal, have a number to call to report them. It hasn't rained here in Corpus in about a month, so I'll probably be reporting some folks.

This guy didn't heed my advice.
