Three former Memphis officers were acquitted Wednesday of all state charges, including second-degree murder, in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols after he ran away from a traffic stop, a death that sparked nationwide protests and prompted renewed calls for police reforms in the U.S.

An out-of-town jury from a majority-white county took about 8 1/2 hours over two days to find Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley and Justin Smith not guilty on all charges after a nine-day trial in state court in Memphis, which is majority-Black. After the jury’s verdict was read, the defendants hugged their lawyers as relatives of the former officers cried. One relative yelled, “Thank you, Jesus!”

Man, I don't know about that verdict. I'm not sure what level of involvement these specific cops had in the incident but even if they just stood by and watched that should have got them AT LEAST a negligent manslaughter charge.

This incident was a BAD one for the cops and letting everyone off just doesn't sit well with me.

They were present. If they witnessed a civilian being beaten, they would intervene as they are required to

After seeing the video, I have to wonder what the make-up of the jury was.

I've been on two juries, and I can say with quite a bit of confidence what their makeup was - they were statists. They believe that the state is supreme, and whatever the state says must be correct.

As opposed to making the decision that profits someone who's already rich?

I have no clue what you're talking about or how it relates to anything I said.

Says the person who believes in anarcho-capitalism. You're the only one who can't see the truth here.

Totally agree. Letting these cops walk sends a really bad message to the rest of law inforcement, especially the gung ho ones looking for an excuse to use their badge to "hurt" someone because they can.....

Well, this should lead to violence.

What makes you say that? Before the trial of George Floyd, there was already violence before the trial and verdict. Any violence before this trial in Memphis?

I agree that it should lead to violence, but it won't. The question now is why? Could it be that the policeman were black and not white? Had the policeman in Memphis been white, would they have been found not guilty? Of course not.

Thus this verdict of 'not guilty' proves the racism of the verdict against Derek Chauvin. He was guilty on 'all counts'. These three blacks were found not guilty on all counts.

Black racism, not justice, determined both cases of Derek Chauvin, and the three police officers in Memphis. But of course I could be wrong. Let's see if they burn Memphis to the ground due to this latest verdict.

No, it sends the right message. They want to be able to beat the living shit out of civilians whenever they feel like it.

That's NOT the right message, unless you're a worthless, dishonest deadbeat cop. The last kind this country needs.

They picked his crumpled body up off the ground so that they could continue beating him to death. All on the video.

All white
Which is odd, really. All white jury in Memphis? 63% of Memphis' population is black. Looks like most if not all cops involved are black. How is this a jury of peers?

All white

All the more reason for blacks to burn Memphis to the ground. Whites have let the police get away with a murder of a black innocent man. The injustice just multiplies.

Oh, but wait...the police were black. Never mind. That makes it right. That is U.S. justice.

If I'm on the scene and just standby and watch you get beaten to death and do nothing I fully expect to face legal consequences for my inaction.
The police should be held to the same level of responsibility.

over / under police allowing Memphis riots tonight ?

I'd say a big chance the people in Memphis upset with this burns/robs their own neighborhoods/businesses and are allowed to do millions in damages

I hope not

It's as clear as day they beat him to death. The jury is brain dead and racist as ****.

Anyone else but cops gets convicted for this shit with video evidence.
