2 Israeli Embassy staff members killed in shooting outside of event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC

I loathe anti-semitism, but I also loathe what Israel has become. Netanyahu helped Hamas in power. The two deserve each other, but no one deserves them.

Beyond that, two wonderful people were senselessly murdered last night and there is no excuse for it. These people were working to help Gaza.

Anti-semitism is older than Christianity. I've personally never understood it, but like racism, it comes from both the left and the right.

I have no clue how to stop it. People learn it in their homes.

Supporting Hamas is stupid. It does nothing to help Palestinians. Anyone who supports it is either an anti-semite, utterly misinformed or both.

By the same token, opposing Israel's policies that deal with Palestinians is not anti-semitism. Anyone who says it is not helping in the fight against anti-semitism.
Israel is vastly outnumber by the Arab states which have sought its total destruction ever since 1948. It is much more iikely to form an accurate assessment of what it needs to do to survive than keyboard hand-wringers in the weak willed West. Time after time Israel has made concessions in attempts to seek peace. Give "Land for Peace" it was told. Israel did that and gave up the Gaza strip - which immediately became a base for terror funded and supported by the Arab states and Iran. I have supported Israel's right to exist since the state was founded and I will not be swayed by those who would be happy to see it wiped from the map.

Defending itself and attacking hospitals, schools, refugee camps, etc. are not the same thing. Don't fall for the Israeli neocon rhetoric.

The shooter is in custody. All you need to do now is figure out how to blame Trump for this.
There are potential terrorists on both sides, Republicans don’t have an exclusive on that. The problem is, they are being incited to do these terrible deeds.

Israel hasn't managed to get along with the Palestinians within the borders of Israel and with those in the Gaza Strip. That in and of itself shows that the Governments of Israel have not made "accurate assessments of what it needs to do" to survive and to thrive as a nation.

When Hamas occupies hospitals, schools or refugee camps there is no alternative other than to fight them there.

I think the majority of people misunderstand the Israeli/Hamas situation. People in general, will take a side, either Israel or Hamas, or Palestine. But, the problem is not Israel, the problem is Benjamin Netanyahu. People in other parts of the world blame the United States for threats against Canada, Mexico and Greenland. The problem isn’t the United States. The problem is Donald Trump. It isn’t the country that’s to blame, it is the leader of the country.

Why?

Why doesn't the Government of Israel lift that crippling embargo it has imposed on Gaza for the last 20 years?

Why doesn't the Government of Israel help rebuild Gaza? Why doesn't the Government of Israel show Palestinians that there can be a future without the poverty and limited opportunities various Israeli Governments have imposed on those who live in the Strip?

Arab in Israel have full civil rights and Arab parties have seats in the Knesset. I think that is getting along.

Netanyahu is but the latest incarnation of Israeli Governments' decisions to oppress Palestinians in Gaza. Remember, the Strip was occupied for several decades. Keep in mind that when the Israeli military finally exited Gaza, the Government of Israel imposed (and continues to impose0 that crippling blockade.

Extremism is bound to happen when people are whipped into a frenzy. I can almost guarantee that the perpetrator knows virtually nothing about the situation.

I don't read other posters' links in hopes of figuring out what the posters are trying to say or to prove.

You prove whatever point you are making by copying and pasting excerpts from your links.

Re the Palestinians in Gaza: you're ignoring them.

Re the Palestinians in the West Bank: you're ignoring those illegal "settlements".

Thus, your conclusion that Governments of Israel are "getting along" with Palestinians in the Strip and in Israel is just magical thinking.

The crippling embargo provided enough concrete to build multiple high rises....

Which Hamas, the Gaza government, siphoned off to make tunnels to protect Hamas fighters and arms.

It was up the Hamas to rebuild Gaza.

I dont believe this contradicts anything I said.

I believe Netanyahu funneled money in support of Hamas after they gave up the Gaza strip. They wanted to drive a wedge between Hamas and the PLO. They did not believe Hamas had the capability to launch a full upscale attack.

"Even as the Israeli military obtained battle plans for a Hamas invasion and analysts observed significant terrorism exercises just over the border in Gaza, the payments continued. ...Israeli intelligence officials now believe that the money had a role in the success of the Oct. 7 attacks..."

I wonder if it was a mistake to create the state of Israel. It was done out of a concern for safety. But it seems like Israel and the issues surrounding it is the main source of their insecurity.

Liberals are masters at rhetoric and they hope that it all leads up to violence..................... and then they stand back and act all innocent when people get hurt.

No, it was up to the Government of Israel not to facilitate that long-ago election of Hamas to power in Gaza. But Netanyahu figured he was being cutesy and clever and would manage to undermine the authority of the Palestinian Authority if he (Netanyahu) promoted Hamas in Gaza.

And it sure as hell was up to the Government of Israel to repair any and all damage it had inflicted on Gaza after decades of occupation of the Strip.

And it sure as hell wasn't up to the Government of Israel to try to control what was going on in its neighboring nation, which Israel Governments had exploited and oppressed so very recently during its illegal territorial grab of the Strip.

If Netanyahu realized he had made a mistake by empowering Hamas, he sure as hell has done NOTHING to try to right that serious and stupid power play, which he executed not for the good of Israeli-Gaza relations but for his own nefarious purposes in the West Bank.

Netanyahu owes it to Israelis to try to make them safe and secure. But his actions - along with those of his predecessors - have done the opposite.

Benjamin Netanyahu is one of the most contentious figures of modern history. Facing a corruption trial that began in May 2020 and is still ongoing as of February 2024, he is accused of fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in three separate cases involving media moguls and wealthy associates. The prosecution claims that Netanyahu exchanged regulatory favors for favorable press coverage and received lavish gifts. Taking a page out of Donald Trump’s playbook, a man who has 91 felony counts against him, he denies any wrongdoing and calls the trial a political witch-hunt.

The animosity against Netanyahu, who is widely seen as the most radical of the hardliners who wish not only to retaliate against a terrorist attack but also to punish Palestinians possibly just for existing, has grown exponentially—even among Jews and Israelis. He vows that as long as he has anything to say, there will never be a Palestinian state.

Erlanger goes on to call the Prime Minister “historically unpopular,” and that he is held responsible for the intelligence failure that led to the October 7 attack. Indeed, the suspicion is frequently expressed in comment boards that, “It smells to high heaven that the October 7th attack was a surprise to one of the world’s premier intelligence services.”

Until Netanyahu is replaced, there is little hope that the relentless bombing of Gaza will end until the entire territory is razed to the ground. In the meantime, anti-Israel sentiment grows, as does sympathy for the Palestinian people who are being ruthlessly squeezed into ever smaller spaces and deprived of humanitarian aid.

Oh, yeah, he's by far the worst. (I didn't make that clear.)

Thanks for making the point I failed to make.

This particular shooting was so brutal and is so very sad. What a beautiful young couple they were.

I just hate what Jewish people in this country have been through in the last few years. The treatment of them at our highest universities really disgusts me.

I have a grandchild in one of these highest universities and they met a Jewish friend early in their freshman year. They quickly became best friends and it is terrible to hear how this friend has now had to go through years of college, laying really low and living a very different college experience than non-Jewish students. It's so wrong!

None of that justifies this shooting.

Supposing those links to be accurate and the claim of genocide to be justified, I'd like to know why the shooting wouldn't be justified.

Geeze where to begin with this one.

1. It's terrorism.
2. They were innocent of any crime.
3. See #1.
