Understand some of your points, but the border is not open. Under Biden, the immigration service is enforcing immigration laws and at the same time trying to deal with our legal and treaty obligations towards asylum seekers. That is an extremely difficult and politically thankless task. (Such subtleties were ignored by his predecessor.) I don’t think the Latino community in th Southwest is concerned about Venezuelans coming to the US, tho they might have more sympathy for Central Americans. And for obvious reasons, the Latino community in Florida is interested in Cubans. It means that an unnamed retard thinks that because VP Harris is rich, she should care for these immigrants and invite them in to her house. Of course DeSantis and Abbot are also rich but let's ignore that inconvenient detail. These people are pawns in the American pissing contest on immigration. Both sides disgust me. The repubs are heartless and the Democrats care more about the marginalized than the society they represent.
As long as people can just show up somewhere in the US and say "Here I am, take care of me", the flow will continue. I want our immigration policy to be humane but it should also not be an open border. Where is the compromise here? I agree that immigration has made our nation greater, but I don't believe unchecked immigration has. These people don't really want to be Americans, they're just hungry, homeless refugees from their own country's dysfunction.
That being said, they don't deserve to freeze or starve. However, they also don't deserve the benefits of citizenship without getting in line. Last I checked, there was a four year wait for an interview. That, more than anything, is the problem. The Latino community really needs to step up and provide interim help as they are the biggest advocates for open borders. Well, here they are. What now?
As to Democrats caring about the marginalized, that’s what they have preached and often done for generations.
