$2.5 billion, $5 Billion, $15 billion or $25 billion

Representative Ted Lieu put it succinctly:

"Here's the problem you created. If Dems cave to your ransom-note tactics of using a shutdown, what's to keep you from doing this again? Nothing. That's why Dems won't budge."

Similarly, Trump lied about where the funding would come from during the campaign, only to turn around and foist the burden onto the American tax payer. If Democrats give in, they will not only be rewarding his blackmail, but the continued motivation to lie regarding important and costly issues.

Yes more and more it looks like McConnell is going to be charged with the job of reopening the Govt. 67 votes should not be hard given that the Senate already passed a similar bill nearly unanimously.

Trump has decided that keeping his word as he was asking for votes is important, and the D's have decided that humiliating the President is important.

One is better than the other.

Who decided that the will of the minority should prevail? If every Republican who voted for Trump also would vote for the wall you still wouldn't have a majority, and that was before America elected a Democratic House.
America rejects that wall. That's what you, Trump and the whole Republican Party don't get. You're all trying to foist the wall on the country against it's wishes.

Trump said on camera today. The government can stay closed until he gets his $5 Billion.

I hope all those 800,000 government workers remember Trump holding their paychecks hostage come 2020.

They all without exception voted for Hillary the first time around.

The only reason Trump is going to Congress for the money is because Congress won't do what's necessary to make Mexico pay.

But, of course, that's how Congress wants it. Congress doesn't want a wall because their big money donors don't want a wall. Doesn't matter what the people want, doesn't matter what's good for the country. The donors are the only ones who matter.

What makes you think "the people" want that wall? Is that why America elected a Democratic House, because they want the wall?

Oh, it's just that sadly common dishonest tactic where a poster thinks he can boostrap his words into a position of credibility by pretending to speak for everyone.

And some of them, like the poster you responded to, actually believe this works.

Was there more than one vote and how are you privy to the voters choice?

The premise of his post is the best part: anybody who voted for Clinton should be stripped of their ability to pay their rent and feed their families.

Keeping the government closed over a dispute about a relatively small amount of money is an option.

It is also stupidly destructive and immoral, if we are going to risk that kind of damage then it needs to be over big important things.

You are describing your guy Trump to a T here.

If keeping his word is important then he can start by getting the money from Mexico. All $25,000,000,000. Nothing less. I don't want there to be any chance that additional funding comes from the American tax payer down the road.
Off-Topic:
People talk as though it's "just" $25B that's needed. What's needed is $25B + the cost to maintain the thing. Walls once built do not maintain themselves.

it's a moot point. Mexico is paying for the great wall of derp, so no five billion in taxpayer dollars is needed. that's what Tweety promised, at least.

Though I had to look up "derp," your sarcasm didn't by me go unappreciated. LOL

And not just maintenance, but the cost of buying private properties in eminent domain.

How about enlightening at least me; what are the Congressional moves to “make Mexico pay?”

Trump listed them during his campaign. Go read it.

No. It's why they elected Trump.

..........also said “health care was easy, Mexico was going to pay, I can be Presidential...........and so on, and so on...... latching on to what was said during the campaign is telling. Now run along......

Hey...you asked how. I told you.

Don't blame me if you don't really want to know.

No. It's why they elected Trump.

Except Trump wasn't elected by the people. He was elected by the States. That's how your system works- the people elect Congress and the States elect the President.
You know this, right?

The States follow the will of the people.

The States follow the will of the people.

No they don't. You know this. The states follow the will of the writers of the constitution. The will of the people is in the counting of the votes which doesn't elect a President. The Electoral College, which is a creature of the States, elects the President.
This is pretty basic American civics. The States elect the President, not the people.

How do you think the Electors decide who to cast their vote for?

If we shouldn't negotiate with hostage takers, why should we negotiate with a president who is holding 800,000 workers hostage?

This is how STOOPID (/ NJ accent) the prez is.

How do you think the Electors decide who to cast their vote for?

Why do you think the electoral college exists if not to occasionally over-rule the popular vote? That's what it's for. That's why you have an electoral college- to over-rule the popular vote.
Damn. Why does a foreigner have to explain simple American politics to you?

So, today, Trump, when describing what sort of shutdown-ending bill he'd sign, came up with the "word salad" of "a prorated down payment on his wall." He still doesn't get it. Dems aren't of a mind to give him one red cent for new border barrier structures.

Trump listed them during his campaign. Go read it.

What Trump said about Mexico paying for the Wall during his campaign....All BS. The only way Mexico would be forced to pay for that wall is if they were compelled to build it on their side of the border. In fact, that also is the only way that said wall would do some of the things Trumpets are convinced it would do.
