Right?
Would people be mad if this were in Times Square?
Why?
Right?
What do you mean by "art"?Maybe. Here in Houston there are Picasso sculptures in the Museum of Fine Arts. A fair bit of time an money went into those, but I don't see any motivations behind them except the art (and maybe the desire of the artist to earn a living).
I don't fully understand your last sentence, sorry.
Is this a staute of someone who has done something worthy of a statue?Yes. Its like if you have to explain a joke, its not really all that funny. It sort of yells out that there are no actual black men or women who have done anything to be worthy of a statue of their own.
Right?
Would people be mad if this were in Times Square?
Why?
Nope. Thats why people are wondering why its there. Is this a staute of someone who has done something worthy of a statue?
What do you mean by "art"?
What makes you think Picasso works are "art" and why is this statue "art"?
Or is your point about making a living really more relevant, and this is all about money?
Well that's unfortunate I guess.I suspect it would be defaced because people see Trump as an authoritarian and a threat to democracy.
The first definition from the Oxford Languages dictionary works fine for me:
[quote}
1.
the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
"the art of the Renaissance"
Well that's unfortunate I guess.
But peaceful, destructive protest of this statue, if it happens, will be another thing New Yorkers do.
Exactly.Wait... what?
I don't know precisely what you mean by "this" in your last question. If you mean art in general, earning a living comes into it but I don't see it as the primary motivator.
No, I was referring to the "emotional power" part of your definition.
What makes this piece "emotionally powerful.", in the artist's eyes, viewers eyes or anyone else's.
Of course they have. That's what makes art different from not art.I don't think anyone has ever defined exactly how any piece of art achieves "beauty or emotional power" (to quote the definition again).
Right?It works both ways.

Those must have been some orgasms. This time last year there was a giant Hog Dog that ejaculated confetti every day.
What did this pigeon do that earned it a statue in NYC?Nope. Thats why people are wondering why its there.
