Obama must be a genius when it comes to fighting a war. Order 1/5th of your surface warships in the Mediterranean Sea to return home before the shooting starts.
"<The guided missile destroyer USS Mahan (DDG-72) has left the Eastern Mediterranean en route to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk, Va., according to several press reports.
Mahan’s departure leaves four destroyers left to undertake an anticipated limited strike on Syria.
Mahan had a planned ballistic missile defense (BMD) deployment extended in the U.S. 6th fleet area of operations while it waited for the U.S. to take action against the regime of Bashar al-Assad for an alleged chemical weapons attack on Aug. 21.
Four destroyers — USS Stout (DDG-55), USS Ramage (DDG-61), USS Barry (DDG-52) and USS Gravely (DDG-107) — are left in Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) in range of Syrian targets.
There are also likely U.S. submarines in the region to assist in the attack, although the Navy does not typically discuss the positions of its submarine force. '<

more con games????
ONE (1) ship is leaving the area.... count 'em ONE.
You are clueless on how many submarines are lurking with in range- as capable of launching a strike as the surface units and far better at avoiding retaliation.
This isn't an invasion, nor an attempt to wipe Syria off the map- I do believe the US Navy has enough missiles in the area to accomplish the mission.
Stick to commenting about army related topics. You know jack-**** about the navy and naval tactics. You may know jack **** about the army as well, but you reveal your absolute ignorance when you make posts like this.
20 % of our destroyers have departed the 6th Fleet AOR. Now there are only four destroyers in the 6th Fleet AOR. While the Russians have over 16 ships in the Eastern Mediterranean. And I'm sure the Russians also have sub hunter subs deployed in the area who's main purpose is hunting down and destroying American subs. The bigger question is, why were the last eleven Presidents always had 24/7 a Carrier Battle Group/Carrier Strike Group of 1 carrier and a Carrier Air Wing aboard along with one or two cruisers and six to eight destroyers and one or two attack subs and also one Amphibious Ready Force with three amphibious ships and one Marine Corps MEU or BLT aboard ? Not to mention fleet auxiliaries such as oilers, replenishment ships and frigate escorts. That's an easy question to answerer, Obama has allowed our navy to become a hollow Navy. There probably wasn't enough money to refuel the USS Mahan at sea so she was ordered to return to Norfolk where the rest of the fleet is tied up to their wharfs unable to put to sea. Why isn't there a CSG in the 6th Fleet AOR ? I know exactly why because last month the Chief of Naval Operations explained why the carrier that is suppose to be the surge carrier isn't able to put to sea because the ship's crew aren't properly trained to go to sea. Probably because instead of training to go to sea they have been sitting in class rooms for their mandatory sensitivity training.

Ahh yes, more wailing and arm flailing... you really think the Russians are going to attack our ships?
Well if these Tomahawk VLSSCM's are of the Clinton era, don't be surprised if they take out an aspirin factory and the Russian Embassy in Syria. What would you do if you were Putin ? I believe there are 30,000 Russian civilians living in Syria today.

All right Admiral Wiggen, tell us what the disadvantages are of todays 5"/54 gun found on our destroyers and cruisers today compared to the old 5"/38 gun.
Jesus - you're bitching about guns on destroyers?
Look , we get the fact that everything done by any military unit is a chance for you to engage in your inanane babble about Obama. You appear to be a one-trick pony. Whining about one destroyer being moved from one area of operations is about par for the course for you.
Oh good lord...
Did you know the Nimitz battle group is moving into the area? US Nimitz aircraft carrier 'headed closer to Syria'
That is one ship down, 6 + up. So much for your hysteria and ignorance.

The Nimitz CSG is still in the 5th Fleet AOR. The Nimitz CSG is in the Red Sea not the 6th Fleet AOR which is in the Mediterranean Sea. Syria is no where near the Red Sea.
Why hasn't the Nimitz CSG transit the Suez Canal ? I think we know why, Egypt is a basket case and would you have an American carrier transiting the Suez Canal today ?
Here's a question Redress and I bet you will agree. Why do we tell our enemies, possible foes, etc. where all of our carriers are today. Why not go back when the Russians/Soviets, China, etc. had to spend tens of billions of dollars trying to locate out carriers ? I'm sure you remember those days.
Why do we tell Syria and the Russians how many ships we have offshore of Syria and how many Tomahawk cruise missiles are aboard these ships ?

Leaving only FOUR (4) Ships in the area.... count 'em FOUR..
Looks like the Apacherat Why does the US tell people where there aircraft carriers are located? Ever heard of satellites? Carrier groups can't hide no more.
Satellites cost money. Satellites can only cover a fraction of the world's oceans. That's why the Soviets/ Russians, Chinese spent billions on satellites to keep track of where our ships were. Lets keep them spending billions. We're still spending tens of billions on spy satellites.
Do you know why U-2's are still flying today ?
Here, let me help you out:

As you can see, Syria is right near the Red Sea. Please stop making yourself look silly.
Come on Redress, weren't you a squid ? Why don't we no longer conduct carrier operations in the Persian Gulf ? The same reason you don't do it in the Red Sea.
Actually you are so painfully wrong it is hilarious. Satellites can track carrier groups with ease. Further, active emissions make carrier groups painfully easy to locate for any one who wants to.
You can conduct carrier operations in both. I have done so. Also, do you know how long it takes a carrier group to traverse the Red Sea an d Suez Canal? Hint: It isn't long.
what, exactly, is the mission? a token missile attack on some abandoned buildings to save face?
