This article might explain it.

...academic and educator Robin DiAngelo has noticed that white people are sensationally, histrionically bad at discussing racism. Like waves on sand, their reactions form predictable patterns: they will insist that they “were taught to treat everyone the same,” that they are “color-blind,” that they “don’t care if you are pink, purple, or polka-dotted.” They will point to friends and family members of color, a history of civil-rights activism, or a more “salient” issue, such as class or gender. They will shout and bluster. They will cry. In 2011, DiAngelo coined the term “white fragility” to describe the disbelieving defensiveness that white people exhibit when their ideas about race and racism are challenged—and particularly when they feel implicated in white supremacy.

...“The most effective adaptation of racism over time,” DiAngelo claims, “is the idea that racism is conscious bias held by mean people.” This “good/bad binary,” positing a world of evil racists and compassionate non-racists, is itself a racist construct, eliding systemic injustice and imbuing racism with such shattering moral meaning that white people, especially progressives, cannot bear to face their collusion in it. (Pause on that, white reader. You may have subconsciously developed your strong negative feelings about racism in order to escape having to help dismantle it.)

...The value in “White Fragility” lies in its methodical, irrefutable exposure of racism in thought and action, and its call for humility and vigilance. Combatting one’s inner voices of racial prejudice, sneaky and, at times, irresistibly persuasive, is a life’s work. For all the paranoid American theories of being “red-pilled,” of awakening into a many-tentacled liberal/feminist/Jewish conspiracy, the most corrosive force, the ectoplasm infusing itself invisibly through media and culture and politics, is white suprema

It's probably worth reading the whole article before commenting.

"You dont agree with me because you suck" rarely moves ideas.

The Better People come up with something better.

"Sensationally, histrionically"?? When someone uses this kind of language, I tend not to take him seriously. There are better, less dramatic ways of getting his point across.

both the author of the article and the sociologist being discussed are female

I didn't click on the link. I just assumed that it was written by a man.

Depending upon how well you framed the idea that you want to talk about and also on how well educated we are of course......

QUALITY MATTERS

The idea is to read the article, think about it a minute and then see if any of it jibes with reality.

Explains much

Explain what? I don't usually click on links on this forum. I am too lazy. I just read whatever's on the computer screen at the moment.

much.

There is no need to get hostile towards me just because I hold fiscally liberal views, Turtle. I am still pro-gun rights.

That has no relevance to me. I judge posts on their own merit, not on the poster. Its why I can get into really ugly arguments with someone on say gun rights but like their posts on say music or tax issues.

reading an article is essentially a prerequisite of intelligently discussing a thread based upon that article

I know, I also know that, I also know that

Indicates that this would be a waste of time, because we are clearly dealing with a second rate thinker.

This is good to hear.

Well, it's like I said, I don't have a habit of clicking on links that take me to another website/page. If you think this means I am not discussing a thread intelligently then it's too bad.

She is stating the obvious. But, sometimes that too needs stating.

Aside from the microscopic number of actual White Supremacists the only real racist in America today call themselves Progressive or Liberal.
you almost had a sensible post....then you ended it by saying something completely ridiculous.

well the article you cited seemed to blame white progressives so his point has some merit

DiAngelo goes further in the book; she says while individual whites may be against racism, they still benefit from the distribution of resources controlled by their group. Yes, an individual person of colour can sit at the table of power, but the overwhelming majority of decision-makers will remain white, she says.

Whites have organised society to reproduce and reinforce their racial interests and perspectives. Further, they are centred in all matters deemed normal, universal, benign, neutral and good. Thus, they move through a wholly racialised world with an unracialised identity (e.g. white people can represent all of humanity, while people of colour can only represent their racial selves).

Bull ****...the vast majority of us love rainbows, and are willing to invest into them.

But Whites Suck of course, we just need to get it through our heads that we suck.

All absolutes have some merit. Somewhere someone of the group did something that in some way might contribute to the perpetuation of systemic privilege. Some absolutes are ridiculous on their face. His was. It was flat crazy.

Racism is not dead, but it is on life support – kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority and political advantage by denouncing others a ‘racists’

Thomas Sowell

The word ‘racism’ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anything – and demanding evidence makes you a ‘racist’
